Pakistan's new leaders tell US: We are no longer your killing field
Source: The Guardian UK

he Bush administration is scrambling to engage with Pakistan's new rulers as power flows from its strong ally, President Pervez Musharraf, to a powerful civilian government buoyed by anti-American sentiment.

Top diplomats John Negroponte and Richard Boucher travelled to a mountain fortress near the Afghan border yesterday as part of a hastily announced visit that has received a tepid reception.

On Tuesday, senior coalition partner Nawaz Sharif gave the visiting Americans a public scolding for using Pakistan as a "killing field" and relying too much on Musharraf.

Yesterday the new prime minister, Yousaf Raza Gilani, said he warned President George Bush in a phone conversation that he would prioritise talking as well as shooting in the battle against Islamist extremism. "He said that a comprehensive approach is required in this regard, specially combining a political approach with development," a statement said.

Looks like Pakistan's new civilian government is standing up and talking back to Bush. Look for the M$M to start doing a number on Pakistan's new leaders.

By the way, note the reference to John Negroponte; looks like the administration is trotting out the usual suspects to keep Pakistan in line.

4. Biden introduced the topic of Pakistan
to the masses during a Presidential Candidate Debate. The guy knows his stuff, and I'm hoping for a statement from him regarding this.

Recommend. This is important.

7. Negroponte has much to answer for.
He has a long way to go before he joins the divine, and there are many waiting on the other side just to have him live the pain he's dealt.

I would sooner never have been born than face the eternal reward of John Negroponte.

8. WHY IS DISAGREEING WITH AMERICA CONSIDERED A SIN?
Only in America do you think everyone should bow down before your mightyness

Elsewhere people are concerned with life and living, day-to-day issues like food and shelter and not getting killed.

Maybe if the president didn't swagger in with one hand on his pistol and the other on his gun, other leaders would show him more respect.

A bully only earns short term respect, in the form of fear.

9. The neocons and george bush** are about to learn how truly foolish
their dreams and schemes of conquest were and how this country is about to pay dearly for their crimes. They've destroyed our military, made us a pariah amongst nations, and the resentment (there's and understatement for ya) that they've generated will last a thousand years.

They say revenge is a bitch put paybacks are a mother f**cker.

11. Judging by the responses, I'd almost think a lot of people on DU didn't like the Republics...
or what they've done to the country.

As much as I agree, I'm wondering if the next election cycle is going to bring much change. Dumbya's still got a hardcore 19% (if the polls aren't complete bullshit, and I have my suspicions) who seem to admire warmongering, willfully ignorant bullies and I saw a poll last night that claimed McInsane might beat Clinton and lose to Obama by only two points. Being of a cynical nature and very aware that those exact numbers have been floating around for nearly a year now, I'm beyond skeptical. Personally I'm thinking those numbers were pulled out of someone's ass to excuse the theft of the next election as "probable" or "likely" if they can pull off enough local thefts to swing Ohio, Florida and other key states AGAIN.

God knows the U.S. has issues, but if a doddering, senile Republican warmonger even has a shot at a legitimate Presidency after eight years of Republic empire building, an endless list of illegal acts and the destruction of the U.S. treasury, economy, infrastructure, Constitution, Bill of Rights and our international reputation, then we are lost in the wilderness with no way home.

17. Santions against CNN!
Past time! That network is a wolf in sheep's clothing & needs to be boycotted, ignored, told WHY we're not watching them!
They are trying to SPIN, that Clinton is even with Obama and gaining. Bad mouthing Pelosi for not endorsing Clinton!
IMHO, Pelosi's stance on this is the first admirable thing she's done in a while!
WHatever your religious beliefs, or none............. That tornado DID make a hole in the roof of their Atlanta Center!

13. Why in fact America does NOT support democratically elected governments...
"powerful civilian government buoyed by anti-American sentiment."

And what "support" did America give to such democratically elected governments of Canada? France? Germany? etc? etc? etc?

In the months leading up to the US-led invasion of Iraq, the Bush administration threatened trade reprisals against friendly countries who withheld their support, spied on its allies, and pressed for the recall of UN envoys that resisted US pressure to endorse the war.

Can't have people electing governments that are anti-American! Much better to support thugs and dictators willing to do America's bidding!
