Shooter Targets Drivers On I-64 (Charlottesville Va. area)
Source: WRIC ABC Richmond Va

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police say more troopers will be along a portion of Interstate 64 tonight if police don't catch two suspects who shot at vehicles early today near Charlottesville.

State police superintendent Colonel Steven Flaherty said at a news conference that authorities don't have a motive for the shootings that wounded two people and prompted the closure of a 20-mile stretch of I-64 between Charlottesville and Waynesboro for about six hours just after midnight.

Flaherty said police believe the shooter or shooters may still be in the area. He said motorists don't need to avoid I-64, but he says they should be observant.

Flaherty said two cars, a van and a tractor-trailer traveling westbound were struck by bullets along an 11-mile stretch of the highway. An unoccupied parked Virginia Department of Transportation truck also was hit.

1. The Ex emailed me about thsi earlier
Thank God I no longer live in Central VA -- MJidlo would be trying to pin this on me.

Odd stretch for them to be doing it on -- it's mostly either a decent uphill/downhill grade over/down Afton Mountain. It's also very heavily traveled, and a HUGE semi route. The fog is bad enough!

3. The grade starts right outside of Cville, past IVY
I need to call tonight and ask her exactly where it was -- a coworker's husband is a Statie.

4. Well, holy shit. Sonny Nay has been traveling that road daily. I
just now called him -- he's fine, and has NOT been on that road since Monday, so I'm happy.

5. Great. I might as well put a bull's eye on my jacket.
I'm pretty sure even normal law-abiding people want to shoot me off of my 30-mph scooter (which isn't allowed on interstates, anyway). They probably would, if they could see me.

7. 1974 Gremlin
There was video footage of a suspect taken at a credit union in Waynesboro. The article in Friday's Washington Post said that the car in the video was an AMC Gremlin. I looked at the black and white picture in the paper, which was about 1" square, and thought to myself, "that's a '74, isn't it?" as it had a stripe along the side.

Sure enough the article in Friday's New York Timessaid the suspect was driving an orange 1974 Gremlin.

An orange 1974 Gremlin!

If you ever wanted to blend into the crowd after committing mayhem, one of the worst getaway cars to pick would be an orange 1974 Gremlin.

Suspect Arrested in Virginia Highway Shootings

Mr. Woodson, who was charged with two felonies, was one of five people in the house at the time. Police officers said he was the owner of an orange 1974 AMC Gremlin that appears to match the one seen in a surveillance tape of the shooting at the credit union on Thursday.

8. I think this is why he did it. The Gremlin.
This might send me over the edge, too:

9. Right. I mean ...

if you're trying to escape, wouldn't you rather be driving a Hondayotanissanazdaexus, one of those cars that you can't tell apart from all the others? And make it silver too, not orange.

I guess he could have been driving one of those Levi's edition Jeep Wranglers. That might actually stick out more than a Gremlin.
