Jayci Yaeger Dies After Seeing Imprisoned Father
Source: KETV 7

A 10-year-old girl has died, just a day after her wish to see her father was granted.

Jayci Yaeger's imprisoned father, Jason, went to her bedside Wednesday -- a visit federal authorities allowed only after being deluged with letters and phone calls from across the nation.

-----

On Wednesday afternoon, prison guards drove Jason Yaeger to a Lincoln hospice, where he spent less than an hour at her bedside. No one else was allowed in the room except Jason Yaeger, Jayci and the escorts.

Sources said Yaeger did leave the girl's side to consult with hospice counselors and get some direction on how to speak with the girl about what she was going through.

RIP Jayci. I'm glad common sense prevailed and your dad got to visit you one last time. My sympathies to her family.

1. it gives me chills to think how she held on
long enough to see her father before she died. how much strength and will she must have had.

i had a friend, she died i guess it was four years ago this month. she was so sick for so long. in her life she fought cancer, heart disease, kidney stones, gout, stroke, heart attack. in the last months of her life i was and am convinced that the only reason she did not succumb sooner (she was in immense pain with a fatal prognosis; the cancer had reached her liver) was concern for her daughter. her daughter had always depended on her so so much.

her daughter landed a great job making great money. krista was so proud. and she died, just like that, within days. she finally felt okay about moving on. i think it was sheer will keeping her alive up to that point, i really do.

9. My Mom passed away
over twenty years ago. We were all certain she would die before Christmas and she made it to Christmas which was always her favorite holiday. She did it through sheer will.

14. May 27th this year my mom had a deep brain thrombosis and held
one one more day to pass on. The 27th was my sister's birthday and we know she waited until the next day for my sister. God bless your mother and you. I feel your pain as they say.

2. RIP Jayci
I am glad your hurt is done now.

I have no doubts she held on long enough to see him. None at all.

When my sainted father was in the hospital the last time, he did not want my brother informed of this. He and my brother had a strained relationship, and dad was always the type to not want to worry anyone. Things got bad. I did eventually call my brother and told him he should come up here to see dad. That took some persuading but it happened the next day. He and my brother spent some time together, not a lot, and there was no magical reunification. But after my brother and I left the hospital, dad passed away. I have no doubts that some part of him was holding on long enough to see his boys one last time.

4. I wonder if she was even conscious
She should never have had to wait that long to see her father. And where was the compassion in preventing Jason from seeing his daughter.

From what I understand, the father was imprisoned on meth-related charges---hardly anything worth being so hard-lined about.

5. Jayci Yaeger's mother said, in a article posted yesterday, that it was her belief the little girl
was trying as hard as she could to hold on to see her father again.

This is very, VERY sad. It's good he was finally allowed to see her one last time, even though he wouldn't have been able to without the outcry from GOOD, caring citizens.

What a damned shame.

7. Why couldn't...
Why couldn't the "Federal Authorities" realize that this was about Jayci, and not about her father. You have to be pretty cold hearted to try to block a dying girl from her wish to see a parent one last time.

8. Bush will undoubtedly find compassion for pardon or clemency for all manner of neocons
who have raped this country. You might have thought that the prison could have released the father to a halfway house. Now they are so busy patting themselves on the backs for being so compassionate. At least he got to see her before she died.

I saw this story last week on the morning network news and I was in tears as I screamed at the tv. When I see children in pain or plight I can only see them as my own child. To me, this was such a heartbreaker.

13. Oh, the little sweetheart.
I'm glad she was able to see her dad though I understand why her wish was initially refused. "Justice" is pretty damned cold.

Sleep well, Jayci.
