Sgt Maupin's family has been informed by the US Army that his remains have been found and identified. Maupin was one of four soldiers listed as MIA in Iraq. He was declared captured on April 16, 2004.

From the Cincinnati Enquirer article, just posted:

Sgt. Matt Maupin is dead, the parents of the missing Clermont County soldier said today.

Maupin's remain were found in Iraq, his parents said. An Army general came to Clermont County today to notify them, they said.

"Matt is coming home. He's completed his mission," his father, Keith Maupin, said.

The Glen Este High School graduate was taken captive in Iraq on April 9, 2004, when insurgents overran his convoy. He had been driving a supply truck.

His captives released a video of Maupin within days after his capture, but there had been no news since. He was the only U.S. military member listed as missing in Iraq.

Military officials identified the remains through DNA, Keith Maupin said. He said he wasn't told where the remains had been found.

"They found a shirt similar to what he was wearing," Keith Maupin said.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Spc. Keith Maupin, one of two Americans missing since their convoy came under attack near Baghdad International Airport in 2004, has been promoted to sergeant, the Army said Saturday.

The announcement came after an Army board of inquiry met April 6 to confirm Maupin's status as "missing-captured," his status since he disappeared April 9, 2004, when the fuel convoy he was riding in was attacked by insurgents near Baghdad International Airport...

6. Thank you for posting that.
Matt's story has torn this community apart. It's so very sad. I'm only hopeful that his family may now have closure, and the peace that they deserve.

7. We must make each of these personal for as many as we can.
My condolences to his family, friends, community. I used to have a VietNamMIA bracelet, not sure where it ended up. Not knowing can be very very awful. Knowing is very awful. It just sucks.

8. It broke my heart to read what his father said....
"Matt is coming home. He's completed his mission."

I swear, there are two many people in this nation who barely know the effect this wretched war is having on families.

11. Remember all those yellow ribbons for Matt?
I, too, am relieved that his family finally knows for sure and can begin their process of grieving and closure.

How sad. How terribly, terribly sad.

RIP Matt.

12. RIP SGT Maupin...

another soldier died today;
each must go his own way,
in the early morning rain."

16. "He's completed his mission"? What mission was that, to die for lies?
I understand that grief means the guy's not thinking clearly, of course.

Sad that anyone had to die for the lies - American OR Iraqi!

18. God damn...
Perhaps the only silver lining of this most dark cloud is that Sergeant Maupin's family will finally experience closure.

Rest in peace, Sergeant Maupin.
