Gallup Poll: Iran, Iraq, China top US enemies
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON - China has replaced North Korea as one of the top three U.S. enemies, according to a poll of Americans.

Iran topped the list, with 25 percent naming it when asked which country is the greatest U.S. enemy, according to the Gallup Poll. Iraq came next at 22 percent, then China with 14 percent.

North Korea was named by 9 percent — half the number who cited it a year earlier. Pyongyang agreed last year to disable its nuclear facilities in exchange for aid, though disputes have continued over implementing the deal.

China, a growing economic rival of the U.S., was cited by 11 percent as top enemy a year ago.

Gallup first asked the question in early 2001, before the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. At the time, Iraq was seen as the biggest foe, followed by China and Iran.

And you have to remember.. China hold a LOT of YOUR debt.... If you really pissed them off, they can just flood the world with US dollar.... And broke the dollar once and for all

If I was US, I would be little more nice with China, then se them as your enemy nr 1... But don't lisen to me, I am just a little european in a little north-european country..

They are holding sandbags that leak badly.

The more and longer they hold them ....the less they are worth.
I doubt the world will beat a path to their door to buy that Brooklyn bridge.

True, the US greenback are going down the toilet in many ways when it come to worth... But as long as China want yo support the debt US are building up.... And now US want to treat them as enemy.. Good work... China maybe decide to use their power, to dump US dollar for what ever they can get. And then..... Well we would never know I HOPE... Or if... Well US can go down the toilet... And the nest superpower would be china.. And US was worse than the latin-american country..

the Saudi's bought up huge tracks of real estate in large cities in the US after the oil embargo of the 1970's was lifted. The Real estate market plunged and people like Donald Trump ( a famous American real estate tycoon at one time ) bought back those large tracts of real estate buildings for pennies on the dollar. The Saudi's took it to the rears. They lost billions.
I don't know who in the world will buy US dollars over other currency unless oil falls and the dollar value climbs.

China holds empty money bags. True, they bought our debt and it will be the Chinese public that will pay the price through high inflation rates for what the leadership purchased.

...that is another reason the Chinese leaders FEAR floating their currency at on open market rate.

? China may use "their power" against the US ?
Like what? Bomb the Wal Marts that sell Chinese made lead poisoned products ?

No,their own products will back up on their factory floors
and the workers will have to be laid off..... How are they going to get paid if they can't work ?

Chinese hyper economy going to sell their products to third world countries and take their IOU's ?

hey, don't worry about your bad english. You communicate good enough but I'm wondering where are you from ? Where are you now ?

Interesting to se how the SAUDI have been busy in bought real estate in US, specially after the oil embargo in 1973. And even then lost it... But you never know when this type of men do the right thing, or do the wrong ting I guess

China maybe believed that US dollar was a good bet when they first started it? And now are sitting with more money than they can handle.. And that the dollar lately have going down the drain have maybe not bee doing it better I guess... And as always, is it the peasants who pay the price for their leaders misgivings... Today as in eons ago, that is the fact on the ground anyway

True, the chinese currencies would go up to the roof, or down the toilet if they was floating their currency I guess?

Well, they can sold of US dollar at any cost. EVEN if it cost China some real money... Everything for at least save a little money... But China are maybe not that powerfully yet, to threatened US I guess

Not everything made in China are full of lead poisoned product, and both you and I know exactly that,!

Well, Chinese product have been sold to many country over the ages. AND if you thing that US are that a important market for Chinese product, then why have China working with other nations to trade in the Asian marked.. Who by last estimate was a really big market..

I am from Norway, a little place in the north of Europe

22. That's almost certainly true, if you consider the investment banks...
...and the current financial meltdown. Looks like we'll be nationalizing all that debt. This is what the administration is all about: privatizing profits and socializing losses.

21. Dumb TV watchers
The sad truth is, we do have enemies in the world. Some we cultivated, but some are just natural competitors. But asking the average American to list the counties biggest enemies, is like asking them to list the country's best zip code. They haven't a clue. And like zip codes, an enemies list would depend entirely on how you define what you're talking about.

If we are talking about threats to our way of life or existence, then there are only two. Russia and China, and China isn't really in our league yet. After those two belligerent giants, there is a many sided tie for third place, but none of them are capable of defeating the US in a real all out war.

If, however, your criteria was perhaps bellicose leaders of foreign nations, then you might go with Venezuela, Iran and Cuba... their leadership certainly doesn't like us.

Another way to look at it is to say what counties pose a long term threat to undermine our interests... to just fuck with us, so to say. Then I would put Saudi Arabia, Israel and Pakistan at the top of the list because for some reason they are perceived as our "friends" when in fact there is nothing friendly about them. And all three are dangerous as hell.
