Pipe bomb parts found in Florida airport bag: paper
Source: Reuters

By Barbara Liston

ORLANDO, Florida (Reuters) - Components that potentially could be made into a pipe bomb were found in the luggage of a man preparing to fly from Orlando International Airport to Jamaica on Tuesday, the Orlando Sentinel newspaper said.

The Transportation Security Administration confirmed only that "suspicious" items were found in a search of the man's luggage.

FBI spokesman David Couvertier, whose agency is handling the case, said the items "generated a high level of concern," but he declined to confirm the newspaper's report that the suspicious items included "unassembled pipes with end caps, metal ball bearings and other potentially explosive materials."

1. Pipes and ball bearings are not explosive items. What's with the "and other potentially explosive
materials" phrase?

It doesn't look too good for this guy, but I see no need for them to exaggerate.

2. Seems "he looked rather crazy,"
according to this article:

http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/04/01/airport.incident/index.html

And I agree, the statement is inexplicable. Some deodorants have alcohol in them; does that count as an explosive in an election year?

3. If it is deodorant in a spray can, it already is an explosive. Just like hairspray.
The article also quotes other waiting passengers saying he was acting nervous and crazy. The man I saw interviewed on TV looked and sounded Jamaican.

6. On the local news
they interviewed several Jamaicans who said he was acting crazy. Who knows what he was thinking? There are a lot of disturbed people in the world.

8. Some people ....like other Jamaicans waiting for the same flight? Those "some" people?
Or the imaginary people in your mind that this story didn't support?

7. More
http://www.reuters.com/article/domesticNews/idUSN4140792820080402

"The agency identified the man as Kevin Brown, 32, who was ticketed for Air Jamaica flight 80 from Orlando to Montego Bay, Jamaica.

"In a search of Brown's luggage, agents found two galvanized pipes, end caps, two small containers of air gun pellets, batteries, two containers of an unknown liquid, a laptop computer and bomb-making literature, according to a statement from Steven Ibison, special agent in charge of the FBI's Tampa division."

Still pretty weak. What kind of batteries? Laptop batteries? What kind of literature? A cache of a visit to an uncool website? I'm sorry to say it, but I don't trust the people telling the story anymore. None of 'em.
