U.S. military officials accuse Iran of training groups attacking servicemen
Source: Voice of Iraq

Baghdad, Apr 2, (VOI) - A U.S. Military spokesman on Wednesday conceded there were problems in Basra, accusing Iran of training groups attacking the U.S.-fortified Green Zone.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference in Baghdad, Maj. Gen. Kevin Bergner, a U.S. military spokesman, said "there were problems (with Iraqi security forces)in Basra."

"Overall the majority of the Iraqi security forces performed their mission, though some were not up to the task," he added.

...

Bergner accused "Iranian al-Quds Force of training special groups in Iraq and suppling them with weapons to attack U.S. troops."

General Bergner noted, "Quds Force supplied the groups attacking the (U.S.-protected) Green Zone with mortars, rockets, as well as intelligence, and training."

...

The U.S. military spokesman termed the security situation in Baghdad's neighborhoods of Sadr city, Shuala, and Kadhimiya as "challenging."

He accused the three areas of "hosting extremist gunmen posing a challenge to Iraqi security forces to maintain stability and the rule of law."

2. WMD's?
How is that search for Iraqi WMD's going? Oh right, that was a lie. In fact there were over 900 lies from this administration and their mouth pieces leading up to the illegal Iraqi invasion.

And the president and vice president are constantly lying about Iranian nuclear weapons programs now as a pretext to invade that country. How do I know they are lying? Because this administration suppressed a report for a year from 18 different American intelligence agencies that categorically denies that Iran has a nuclear weapons program.

This is a blatant lie. Iran is not helping insurgents. They are supporting the current government in Iraq. Iran is our ally in Iraq.

4. Welcome to DU, Buck.
You're essentially correct. The only thing I would add is that the military intelligence in Iraq are inside a bubble, and tend to overgeneralize from bits and pieces of evidence to produce packages they know meet expectations in Washington. The fact is, the U.S. military inside Iraq is being played by several parties -- particularly, Saudi-backed Sunni militia --to blame Iran for every piece of ordinance they come across.

Also, the Mahdi Army is so splintered that nobody really controls its various factions, many of which are also being manipulated by outside parties.

To really complicate things, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has, itself, been penetrated by double-agents working for various intelligence agencies.

The situation is complex. But, you're right about the lies.

3. Yea right. Blame Iran, again.
Why is that we can never admit, that after five years of occupation, the resistance fighters are just getting more effective with their military tactics. It would seem logical, after a certain amount of time, they would begin to realize what works, what doesn't and use that to their advantage. That is guerrilla warfare 101.
