1,000 rally for anti-gay politician at Oklahoma capitol
Source: PageOneQ/AP

More than 1,000 people have streamed into the Oklahoma Capitol to rally in support of a legislator who has been widely criticized for anti-gay remarks caught in a YouTube audio clip.

A "We Stand With Sally Kern" sign is posted in the Capitol rotunda where the rally is being held.

15. Atheists but we can live without anyone knowing
so while they openly hate us and we have to keep secrets is pales in comparison to the GLBT prejudice.

3. Here is a quote from Sally Kern
And those who think the GLBT crowd ought to use sweeter words on our side, dig the level of invective that the Republicans use and stop asking us to bring a joy buzzer to a gunfight:

"I was speaking to a group of Republicans; grassroots Republicans," Kern explained of the original speech, "and I was talking about the homosexual agenda, and how they are out there putting forth--funding very heavily--homosexual and pro-homosexual candidates to run against, and defeat, conservatives across the nation. I did talk about what I believe...scientific evidence, health evidence...proves that the homosexual lifestyle is a dangerous lifestyle. And, yes, I did compare it to being more dangerous than terrorism. And my point in doing that, gentlemen, was this: Everybody knows terrorism destroys and tears down, and that was the only analogy I was making is that the homosexual agenda, this lifestyle which is so destructive to individuals, is at the heart trying to tear down what is the bedrock foundation of our society."

So like, we are not the ones stoking the fire. Where the rest of our Party is in answering this we do not know. Maybe they are all off at a McClurkin fundraiser. Meanwhile the UCC stands true:

..."If we do not condemn hate speech from an elected public official, we in effect endorse it," said the Rev. Robin Meyers, pastor of the Mayflower United Church of Christ in Oklahoma City. "This represents the state of Oklahoma in a way that is deeply offensive."

12. "scientific evidence, health evidence.."
Not something that the majority of Oklahomans have much use for, apparently.

4. I hate my state's politicians.
I have to put up with the following NUTS in my state:

Senators Jim Inhofe and Tom Coburn - One thinks global warming is the liberals way of putting his cronies the oil companies out of business and the other thinks "lesbianism is rampant in SE Oklahoma" and likes to show STD videos to all the other Senators.

I won't even begin to list the nuts we have in the state legislature.

THERE ARE LIBERALS IN OKLAHOMA, we are just hard to find.

7. Checking In
Another "Far Left Liberal Loon" from Oklahoma checking in. It shames me that our elected officials are such close minded bigots. I didn't even know the bit about Coburn and the lesbian statement. I was done with him when the minimum wage increase was being debated and he said working folks didn't need to make higher wages because it would decrease their welfare benefit.

17. Here's another one right here--
I'm so dammed embarassed by this state, I swear I would leave if I could afford to. Since I can't, I'm stuck here with these idiots who want to legislate morality. :banghead:

Here's a link to the story about Coburn and the lesbians in the high school bathrooms (it's from 2004):

http://www.alternet.org/election04/20162/

Here's a snip:

It may at first be hard to believe that this modest midwestern state is a breeding ground as a lesbian Sodom and Gomorrah, but we have it from a good source that the state is in fact cultivating lesbian debauchery.

None other than former ultra-conservative Republican Congressman and the current Republican Senate candidate Tom Coburn says so.

In a tape recently released by Brad Carson, Coburn's Democratic opponent for the Senate race there, Coburn is heard warning the good clean citizens of Oklahoma of the great lesbian threat to their state.

On the tape, Coburn tells how a campaign worker form Coalgate, Okla., told him that lesbianism is “so rampant in some of the schools in southeast Oklahoma that they’ll only let one girl go to the bathroom.”

To put it mildly--he's a fucking idiot.

13. Sooner stock here
So I know the ins and outs of Oklahoma, and that there are many that are doing the good work. In 2004 a friend of mine ran for State House there,as a Democrat,. My Grandpa was a Sooner, and my Mom was raised in Courtney Flat, near Ardmore. Her cousin Sam also served in the Oklahoma state house. As a Democrat, by the way.
In no way should Sally Kern or her supporters be seen as anything but Republicans, the Oklahoma part is just a detail. The important part, is that they are Republicans and they are the same all over the country.

27. yes, there ARE liberals in Oklahoma!!
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 08:57 AM by tulsakatz
in fact, in Tulsa we managed to elect a democratic Mayor last year!! And considering that Inhofe was once Mayor of Tulsa, I think it is a step in the right direction.........

But I also agree........Inhofe and Coburn should be committed, they are definitely insane, imo!

23. The smart people in Oklahoma have to leave to regain their sanity.
The bible thumpers drive them nuts, so they have to leave.

Not that Texas is much better.

Alfalfa Bill would be red lining the marble tachometer.

Alfalfa Bill was the governor of OK in the Depression. He once dared the Texas Rangers to come in his office and arrest him.
