Brent Wilkes, the former Poway defense contractor convicted of bribing former congressman Randy “Duke” Cunningham, was back in federal court in San Diego Wednesday and could be free on bail by the weekend.
Last Thursday, an appeals court ordered that Wilkes should be released pending the appeal of his convictions. In February, he was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Larry Burns to 12 years after he was convicted of bribery, fraud and money laundering.
Burns indicated at the hearing Wednesday he would reinstate the $2 million bond Wilkes was under before his convictions. It was secured with equity in Wilkes' home and other property. Burns said he wanted a new appraisal of the home to make sure the equity will cover the amount of the bond.
He also said he would add special conditions aimed at regulating and monitoring Wilkes' behavior when he is free. Burns, who had ruled earlier that Wilkes lied on the stand and misled the judge about his finances, said he did not trust the former defense contractor very much.

Well, looks like they're going to go ahead and "let him go"... Says he doesn't pose a flight risk, and in other places indicated the reason for his release is that he will "likely win his appeal" or something of that sort. Or perhaps he will likely be pardoned by Dubya?
