John Edwards says would not accept VP nomination
Source: Reuters

LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards said on Thursday he would not accept the nomination for U.S. vice president as he did four years ago.

Edwards, a former senator from North Carolina, dropped out of the 2008 race that is still being contested by the two remaining Democrats, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, to see who represents the party in the November 4 general election.

After his keynote speech at CTIA, the annual U.S. wireless industry showcase, Edwards was asked in a question-and-answer session if he would accept the nomination for vice president.

"No," said Edwards, who also declined to say whether he would endorse Clinton or Obama.

4. You two f__cking losers have no qualilty....
...just a pair of sharp scissors cutting each other down. No class like Edwards had.

Two fools who have up to now divided and have fractured this party.

I'm hoping Gore comes in and kicks both your asses out!!!!

18. Lovely attitude.
What is your damage?

Do you enjoy taking a whack at any non-obama person or is it a duty?

Calling Edwards "yesterday's news" furthers your cause how?

This sort of reflexive mud-flinging is one reason people feel free to use the "Z" word.

ZEALOT

...is the word just in case you had difficulty guessing.

28. No, Edwards was
never news. The media did a good job of ignoring him, and focusing on H and O, mainly because it promised to be a good cat fight. Also, you can't give any coverage to a populist candidate when you work for news organizations owned by major corporate identities. Really, it is quite a shame.

11. John Edwards
Whomever wins the election should create a new cabinet position immediately to undo what the Bush Administration and the Republican Congress has done to our constitution, our government agencies and all government contracts. The ideal candidate would be John Edwards. He would have the power to appoint special prosecutors to pursue those who have broken the law (all who have broken the law, not just some or certain laws)starting with the most senior levels of government. He would offer legislature to strengthen the rights guaranteed by our Constitution (by the way why have we not had Habeas Corpus reinstated in a democratically controlled congress?). Anyway you get the picture.

Having this position pursue these goals would aid and assist the Justice Department and the Legislature in resolving the crisis we are in and return this country from the brink of Fascism.

16. you just cheered me up and gave me something to live for
thank you for that superb idea. I copied and pasted it to my "ideas for letters to the editor" file. I will raise that issue (as will others, I hope) when a Democrat wins the presidency.

14. He can effect change through some Poverty Action Center
Much like Democracy for America.

The VP is beneath him now.

In 2004, it was a good fit. But this man has grown so much that putting him in the position of Vice President would be a complete waste. America would not experience the drastic policy changes that Edwards wants to implement.

I miss John Edwards!!!

Endorsed by Gore He would make the best unity candidate we could hope for.

This is why I dream of a brokered convention.

15. Well that just sucks
A loss for us all. I guess ego did play a part in his campaign. And I guess serving his country wasn't as important as serving himself.

Oh well.

25. Political logic does not put him on the ticket. He knows this and has acted to stop talk of it.
This helps the nominee.

Welcome to Politics 101. Sorely needed at Democratic Underground.

29. Like I intimated upstream
a populist candidate will never make it in our election process. Corporate controlled media will ensure he gets no exposure, but will only cover those who are in the best interest of their masters.

If he can do for poverty what Gore is doing for global warming, I think that would be a more productive path.

Edwards was an asshat in 2004 and an utter waste of space in 2008.
