Iraq: Suicide bomber kills 15 at funeral

BAGHDAD - Iraqi police say a suicide bomber has struck a funeral for a Sunni policeman north of Baghdad, killing at least 15 people and wounding eight.

Police say the attacker detonated an explosives vest in the midst of the mourners at the funeral on Friday.

The attack occurred in Sadiyah, a town 60 miles north of Baghdad in the volatile Diyala province.

2. It's what they do.
Unfocused, uncivilized hatred.

3. Precisely.
Those at the funeral may well include other policemen. They should die.

If not, then the funeral will most certainly include family and clansfolk of the policeman. They should die.

When I write, "They should die," I don't mean that I think they deserve death. But given a communal system the family participates in the policeman's "guilt". The "crime" was not properly submitting, not joining the jihadniki, not being a good whatever-it-is that you want to call the jihadniki.

It's also possible that the violence wasn't jihad-related, but feud and revenge related. There's a difference between that motive and the jihadniki, in many cases. It's even possible that the policeman was killed in a fair fight and hurt people from another clan or sect-let; or that the policeman was ambushed and killed, but that wasn't enough retribution to satisfy the warped honor of whoever was behind the killing.

Of course, one can't rule out simple chaos, something, strongly frowned upon. The solution proffered is to submit to the people creating the chaos. The immediate effect is to humiliate the government or tribal/clan leaders, who are considered responsible for protecting their charges.

4. Plus there are some muslim fundies that still believe they aren't allowed
to morn the dead - mohammed strickly forbid it, therefore the funerals would look sacriligious to them. I said some muslim "fundies" as most muslims do morn the dead now a days.
