Gas prices rise to new record
Fuel now above $3.30 a gallon; crude costs also rising

NEW YORK - Retail gas prices surged to a new record above $3.30 a gallon Friday and appear poised to rise further in coming weeks as gasoline supplies tighten. Oil prices, meanwhile, supported the gas price rally by jumping more than $2 a barrel after a dismal employment report sent the dollar lower.

At the pump, gas prices rose 1.4 cents overnight to a national average of $3.303 a gallon, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. That’s the latest in a series of records, and about 60 cents higher than a year ago.

While oil’s surge above $100 over the last month has boosted gas prices so far this year, analysts now expect gas prices to continue rising regardless of what direction crude takes. The Energy Department expects prices to peak near $3.50 a gallon later in the spring, but many analysts predict the spike could approach $4.

That’s because gasoline supplies are falling, in part because producers are cutting back on output of the fuel due to the high cost of crude — the more expensive crude is, the more refiners have to pay and the lower their profits are. They’re also in the process of switching over from producing winter grades of gasoline to the less polluting but more expensive grade of fuel they’re required to sell in the summer.

2. 9 dollars or nine pounds?
UK has more taxes on gasoline, if I'm not mistaken.

But, yes, Americans are getting a dose of reality.

8. Don't worry. I was in England twice, once in 2001 and once in 2002. I know of what
you speak.

The small vehicles and everyone watching their trips and then I came back to U.S. To see Americans driving around in their Hummers, completely oblivious to what I knew was coming.

Who are you kidding? That's a sick joke. Americans have enjoyed dirt cheap gas for decades, but all they've done is waste it. If you want to save money at the pumps, get a sub-compact car and USE LESS GAS, dummies!! No wonder the rest of the world laughs as America continues to dig a deeper hole for itself.

You do not have an automatic right to cheap gas.

You do not have an automatic right to drive a 2-ton SUV that gets 13 mpg.

Stop for a moment and wonder how you'll cope with $5 gas (or more, when Cheney pushes the button on Iran) with your stupid, selfish, unsustainable, sprawling suburban lifestyle.

And take that vacuous 'Support Our Troops' ribbon off the back of your Hummer.

Get to work on Separation of Oil and State. Do it now.

9. gas pricing
now wait a minute , if everybody in the world got themself a car with high mpg , what makes you think these asshole would'nt just charge that much more per gallon for there gas , this is'nt about how many miles you get to a gallon , this is about greedy oil companys and there profits , the more mile you get to the gallon of fuel won't save you a dime , they will just raise the price some more ,

6. Honestly, I'm surprised.
I would have thought that the GOP would call its bosses over at Exxon-Mobil and say, "um, the party's gonna end if you don't lower prices this year."

But apparently they've decided that the party's gonna end anyway and they need to ass rape all of you for as long as they can get away with it.
