Rice leaves door ajar for vice presidential chance
Tue Apr 8, 12:20 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice left slightly open the chance on Tuesday that she might be interested in running as vice president on Republican White House contender John McCain's ticket.

Pressed by a reporter, Rice declined to make a strong, direct rejection that she would never be interested in the second spot on the Republican ticket that is almost certain to be led by McCain as the presidential candidate.

Rice chose instead to lavish praise on the Arizona senator, adding that at the end of the Bush administration in January 2009 she planned to go to her home in California where she had served as provost at Stanford University.

"Senator McCain is an extraordinary American, a really outstanding leader and obviously a great patriot," Rice said at a news conference with the foreign ministers of Mexico and Canada at her side.

5. Not seeing it
I mean, a VP is supposed to make up for where a candidate is weak.

But will black voters cross over to vote for McCain so they can have a black VP when they can vote for Obama and get a black President.

Not to mention the war as in how condi is tied to the wreck that is Iraq . Voters in general and black voters in particular don't view the Iraq occupation favorably. So even if Condi was running for President, I don't see a lot of Black voters going for her.

And then we have the racist factor among Republicans. While being Republican doesn't make one racist, racists do tend to be Republicans.

Maybe i am knieve, but I don't see how Condi being VP would help McCain.

13. That's vague
The powers that be?

You mean the GOP leaders?

Unless they are planning on losing, it makes little sense for them want something that wouldn't help their candidate.

Not to mention, not everything is a back room conspiracy.

The one's he keeps kissing up to, and considering how many backroom deals they have made (like Cheney's energy plan) it wouldn't surprise me if they twisted his arm into doing it.

Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 08:51 PM by booley
When it comes to elections, the neo-cons are not dumb. Rove understands the base and the neo-cons listen to Rove.

And Condi would not help McCain win.

Besides there are plenty more neo-cons where she came from.

Rice is simply not the favorite of all of bush's team. That dubious title would go to Barney, his dog, or perhaps one of his daughters.

42. That, at least, won't happen.
Even if Satan revokes his promise to Cheney and stops his tiny black heart today, there won't be a replacement Vice President for George Bush.

The Democrats have enough control over the Senate that they don't have to approve anyone that Bush nominates, and it will be easy to delay any nomination hearings until Bush's time runs out.

The Democrats have every reason in the world to leave the position vacant. George Bush is not competent to perform the job of President himself and if he's as mentally unstable as I suspect he is, he might not even be able to last out his term. He certainly won't be able to perform his duties as maliciously as Cheney has in his stead.

Refusing to approve a nominee also puts Nancy Pelosi next in line of succession, and if Georgie cracks up under the pressure of actually having to do his job, we'll wind up with the first female President before the next President-elect takes over.

That would give us a welcome head start on fixing this awful mess.

29. Rice, she is someone I do not want to be like, no matter how much they pay me.
The lack of confidence in her public appearances, her trembling voices during interviews and press-conferences point to the fact that Rice has been acting not serving as a Secretary of state. I believe that others have been doing her job from behind and then to hell what to do. I do not think that she is competent enough to be a Vice President.
