Obama: will ‘guarantee’ he’ll offer Gore a role in administration
Caren Bohan
Tags: Tales from the Trail: 2008

LAFAYETTE, Indiana (Reuters) - Barack Obama said on Thursday he would “guarantee” that he would offer former Vice President Al Gore a position within his administration if he wins the White House.

The Illinois senator’s comment came in response to a question at a town hall forum in Indiana about whether he would consider Gore for a Cabinet job.

“I can guarantee you that Al Gore will be invited to take part in my administration,” Obama said, reiterating comments he made a week ago in response to a similar question in Pennsylvania.

At both the Indiana and Pennsylvania events, Obama mentioned that he speaks to Gore periodically.

34. How bout blindly walking onto trains ans gulags...
Before you leap ahead, completely trusting Al Gore's global warming hysteria...please do more research on the causes of global warming and the WTO food production policies.

Ask AL...who stands to profit most from carbon taxing. Ask him that you want to read the fine print before signing.

3. He's trying to steal an endorsement.
It's like dancing near someone on the dance floor, to make it look like you're dancing with them. Gore won't endorse him, so he's trying to associate Gore with his administration.

I really don't like him. Every day he just seems creepier to me.

How do you think Obama should have responded? Should he have said "no comment"?

You assuming the question wasn't planted? I don't know, I didn't see it.

He basically said "Yes, I would offer a role to Gore in my administration."

I think you are nit-picking.

6. And I respect and admire Gore and Obama

I'm sure that he gets a lot of questions about former Vice President Gore.

You may not care to know, but many care to know if Obama or Clinton would embrace Al Gore.

Now we know how Obama feels about Gore.

I'm sure that Hillary will \could say the same.

14. No, a President offering a cabinet position.
Gore's not running for President. If he has a desire to be part of the process at a cabinet level (and I'm not saying he does), Obama's interested in having him as part of the process.

22. My guess is that Gore will be one of the few that Obama will ask HIS input of where he wants to go..
... if he were invited on board.

I'm sure that Gore has a lot of concerns about how he can best be in a position of leadership to deal with global warming. Perhaps he has his thoughts on where he could work in the cabinet and be most effective doing that. I'm sure that Obama would be receptive to that.

16. I could see Gore in an ambassador at large position
I think Gore has been enjoying his freedom too much to willingly plug himself back into the bureaucracy. But I could certainly see him in the role of dealing with other nations to reach agreement on the difficult shared sacrifices that will be needed to restore the balance of the planet.

25. Secretary of Interior
In charge of NOAA, National Marine Fisheries Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service, National Parks, and EPA.

That would be a nice role for the Nobel Peace Prize winner for environmental issues.

Source please? It seems ironic that he would say that when he has repeatedly said he has no interest in running for President.

Here's my source:http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=070216193307.67kfaghf&show_article=1

"I have no intention to run for president," Gore said in an interview conducted in Los Angeles and broadcast Thursday by the BBC.

"I can't imagine in any circumstance to run for office again," said the former Democratic vice president under then-president Bill Clinton

37. Here:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080328/pl_afp/usvotegore_080328161311

"But he added: "You know, I haven't ruled out the idea of getting back into the political process at some point in the future. Don't expect to, but if I did get back, it would be as a candidate for president, not in any other position."

Here's the DU thread on the subject:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x2439419

and more from the Larry King interview:

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0705/22/lkl.01.html

"Mr. Gore, given the foreign policy expertise that you have exhibited on Mr. King's show tonight and the expertise that you gave to the administration of President Bill Clinton, would you consider the secretary of state position in a Democratic presidential administration?

GORE: Thank you for your kind words, but, no.

KING: No cabinet position?

GORE: No.

KING: No federal position?

GORE: No. Not because I don't have the greatest respect for what an honor it would be to serve in such a position, but I have -- I have zero interest in doing something like that."

36. No-brainer.
Anyone with even a remotely progressive bone in his body should be considering Gore for a Cabinet position. Not sure what Obama's "guaranteeing" to offer him, but it might not be enough to tempt him.
