CLEVELAND -- The NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland defends its workplace safety record in response to a union's claim of a high incidence of cancer in one of its buildings.

NASA Glenn Director Woodrow Whitlow said the agency has no data that supports the union's claim. He spoke at a news conference Friday on the third floor of the Development Engineering Building, which the union says is unsafe for workers.

Whitlow said employee health and safety is the space agency's top priority and that it will investigate any employee concerns.

The union said cancer has been diagnosed during the past four years in about 40 of the 100 workers on the building's third floor. State and federal health officials say the cancer rates are within the normal range.
