Lieberman willing to star at Republican convention
Source: The Hill

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), the Democratic Party’s 2000 vice presidential nominee, is leaving open the possibility of giving a keynote address on behalf of Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) at the Republican National Convention in September.

(snip)

Appearing before the Republican convention carries some risk for Lieberman. His Democratic colleagues could seek retribution by taking away his gavel on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee next Congress.

Lieberman has had a long leash this Congress because his decision to caucus with Democrats — despite losing Connecticut’s 2006 Democratic primary — allows them to hold their narrow 51-49 majority. If Democrats pick up more seats as expected in November, and Lieberman angers Democrats along the campaign trail, some privately expect there might be an attempt to deny him his bid to retain his chairmanship.

One Democratic leadership aide said losing his chairmanship could happen in that scenario, but “the bar would have to be very high.”

That’s because Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has a close relationship with Lieberman.

He got a job pretending to be a Democrat for Fox News (really!)

He still makes headlines from time to time yammering about his ... um ... "ideas": special interest groups didn't dominate Washington before the seventeenth amendment was ratified, abortion causes illegal immigration, &c&c

I'd guess the CAT scans aren't pretty

Unlike some of the Southern Democratic senators, who were disloyal to the party and supported Lieberman as an conservative independent candidate in the fall. Many of them now support HRC. None, as far as I know, back our frontrunner.

The repubs ran a clown against him and many state Dem "leaders" endorsed LIEberman in the general despite we the people having chosen Lamont in the primary. But karma is a b*tch. 13. According to the article, Joe has nothing to fear
(snip)

Unlike a number of Democratic colleagues who backed Lieberman’s challenger Ned Lamont after the 2006 primary, Reid offered words of praise for the senator, saying he would not “turn on Joe.” Reid called Lieberman and promised him a chairmanship if he won reelection, a move that angered some Lamont supporters.

Even though Reid may not need Lieberman next Congress to claim a Senate majority, he told Lieberman in private conversations that he would protect his seniority.

“I can tell you Sen. Reid had talked to me a few times and said he knows there will be talk if we get more than 51 Democrats next year,” Lieberman told The Hartford Courant this month. “As far as he is concerned, I will retain my seniority, et cetera, no matter how many Democrats there are next year.”

27. Perhaps....
We will need a new Senate Majority Leader come 2009.

Reid's been pretty useless and if he thinks that protecting LIEberman's seniority is a good idea, especially as it would come at the cost of the Democrats being able to get things done since LIEberman has already shown his true colors and cannot even be considered a DINO at this point, then clearly Senator Reid has been smoking some kind of hallucinogenic herb.

LIEberman needs to be kicked to the curb... like yesterday!

I can't believe that he was supposed to be our Vice President.

61. Lieberman was a strange choice by the leadership
or was it to lose (like every election since then) so they could get their war against Iraq? Republicans were beside themselves with approval of him as the first Jewish VP. They knew Lieberman was not liked and people feared him as President.

If our party wanted the "first Jewish VP" why not choose a popular one in our party like Wellstone? Well...we all know Wellstone was anti-war in the ME. Wellstone was a Democrat...Lieberman was not.

Gore should have won hands down since people don't like change in the good times. It seems so long ago that I warned the Dems not to do it. Stupid isn't the word for it. Do they really want to win and are they just there to pick minority candidates as the first this or that?

A VP doesn't have the automatic right to the party's presidential nomination, after all; though several have done so recently.

I think Gore made a bad choice there; but no one could be worse than Cheney (The Devil Incarnate).

Fuck that son-of-bitch. Kick his ass out of the party. We shouldn't need that asshole after the elections, anyway, so boot his sorry ass. Douche-bag.

99. I asked Pelosi to remove him since he never votes for
Democrats. We don't need him. Why give him power over our security when he wants us to be fearful and go to war?

I'm not feeling very safe Nancy.

Unfortunately, we're talking about Joementum, the most boring and depressing human being on the planet.

They can have him. I'm sure the Democrats will have speakers that have, oh, a pulse.

54. It makes my skin crawl to know the RW convention will be right down the road from me
And now Lieberman might be there as well? Ugh, the only way this could get worse is if the zombie of Ronald Reagan comes shambling out of the Mississippi River right into downtown St. Paul.

They could share it perhaps? The Poodles' Keynote Speech: "Woof, woof, my turn to lick Georgie's face!"

All swaggering manhood and war-mongering in public, but when he had a chance to fight he did all he could to avoid it.

100. Joe is for Joe.
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 04:27 AM by mac2
Joe is not a person who represents his own country. He is a globalist and self interested. The seat of power set him on the wrong track.

I could blame his religious group for putting fear into his head but that doesn't happen to all. He's a "couch warrior" who sends other people to war for his own power and profit. Joe is a big defence industry supporter.

76. C'mon Joe, you know you're a repuke at heart.. have a little integrity..
and go over the dark side. Enough of this namby-pamby Independent bullshit. You're one of THEM now. Get the fuck out and don't ever darken our doorstep again.

I see where his good bud President Shitstain gave his wife a comfy little job. How cute.

Hadassah Lieberman was appointed to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council.

Lieberman, the wife of U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.), will be appointed by President Bush to a five-year term, according to the White House.

Lieberman was among 11 people named to the council, which oversees the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.

Joining her are Norman Bobins and Andrew Hochberg of Illinois; Joseph Brodecki and Michael David Epstein of Maryland; Donald Etra and Pierre-Richard Prosper of California; David Flaum and Howard Konar of New York; Ezra Katz of Florida; and Douglas Korn of Connecticut.

88. The best solution here is to increase our majority enough so we don't need him
then strip him of his leadership to let him wallow in his own mud. The Republicans gave Zell the favors he wanted, they can do the same for Joe. He doesn't need us and we don't need him. Damn I wish Lamont had won.

So let's elect more Democrats.

92. Screw you, Zell Lieberman
Here's hoping you become completely deranged and start yelling some thing about defending ourselves with spitballs while you whore for McCain, like your mentor Zig-Zag Zell did four years ago! Maybe challenge Tweety to a duel as well...

Hopefully the Democrats will pick up some Senate seats (or at least even *one* more seat) this November so whether this traitor caucuses with us or not will no longer matter.

98. I can see cringing, holding our nose
and trying to hold on to him until '09, but after that? Even when we're almost definitely going to pick up seats?

WTF?! Reid is a stupid cowardly prick. Talk about weak. Do we have any rules of loyalty in place? He should be kicked out of the party in '09. If Reid won't forward such a motion he doesn't deserve the majority leader post. Granted, he doesn't anyways...but this is another great reason!
