U.S. hopes Saudi Arabia, others to offer Iraq help
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON, April 16 (Reuters) - The United States is hopeful Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations will offer diplomatic and financial help to Iraq at a conference of its neighbors next week, said a senior U.S. official on Wednesday.

U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker and the top U.S. commander there, Army Gen. David Petraeus, visited Saudi Arabia on Monday to urge Riyadh to do more in Iraq and the senior U.S. official said there may be an announcement at a ministerial-level conference of Iraq's neighbors and other major powers in Kuwait on April 22.

"I think Crocker and Petraeus are very persuasive fellows ... There may be an announcement at the meeting. It is possible," said the official, who spoke on condition he was not named.

Another U.S. official also said the U.S. meetings in Saudi Arabia had gone well and Riyadh, which promised last year to look into opening an embassy in Baghdad but has not yet done so, was expected to follow through on its pledges.

1. What country would throw ITS money in the fiduciary black hole known as Iraq.
We've lost immeasurable amounts of money so far with no hope of tracing where it went.

2. Well, they can hope with one hand and s**t in the other.
That way, both hands will be full.

So it's down to "hope" now, eh?

5. Why don't they just send out an alert 'warm bodies and money needed,
please contribute'?

Does anyone seriously think that the administration will get any takers? Think there's another country crazy enough to want to jump into this on the U.S. side (notice I didn't say OUR, because this ain't MY anything).

I was against this, I don't claim it and I don't let it claim me. I just have to kick in to pay for it. I get 100.00/month child support. Last month the government took 25.00 as a payment (granted under the Deficit Reduction Act) for services for collecting my money which goes to help reduce the deficit. I hope my 25.00 helped knock down that old deficit. I mean we have wars to pay for, big business to bail out.

So please Saudi Arabia (a country that contributed 17 out of the 19 hijackers, wasn't it?) start kickin' in a few mil. Get it from Bandar. After the money he got from BAE, he can afford it. The bin Ladin family comes from there as well. Maybe we should be able to latch onto some of Ossie's money to pay for this war. I mean, he did provide the excuse for it, regardless whether or not the whole 911 thing was MIHOP or LIHOP. Does any of the family riches belong to him?

Oh well, just another day. And another how many dead people and hundreds of millions of dollars?

10. Can you imagine?
Right after the Senate hearings, Ambassador "Crock" said, "It's time, it's way past time for the Arab countries to start recognizing Iraq. It's time to bring in embassies, ambassadors. They need to start visiting soon, bring dignitaries."

YEAH RIGHT
