Article published Thursday, April 17, 2008

LANSING, Mich. — Michigan’s unemployment rate remained at 7.2 percent in March for the second month in a row.

The rate was affected by layoffs related to the United Auto Workers strike at American Axle and Manufacturing Holdings Inc.

The state Department of Labor and Economic Growth said yesterday that Michigan’s rate was higher than the March, 2007, rate of 7 percent and the national unemployment rate for March of 5.1 percent.

The department said the state had 41,000 fewer people in its labor force in March than it did a year ago, dropping to below 5 million.

5. And that's using the self-inflating Dept. of Labor stats
which include part-time jobs and temp work as "employment" just to pad the numbers. How many jobs are permanent, full-time positions that pay benefits? Only that figure could come close to an accurate employment picture.
