Other FLDS enclaves are feeling scrutiny
Source: Deseret News

The news of the raid on the Fundamentalist LDS Church's compound in the tiny town of Eldorado, Texas, has stirred up emotions and fears in many communities that have become home to FLDS enclaves.

Expansion appears to be under way in at least two known compounds of the FLDS Church outside of Texas and rumors continue to swirl about so-called "safe houses" scattered throughout the West.

It's an oft-repeated claim that those familiar with the FLDS people adamantly deny.

"They're not safe houses.

1. I'm not one to judge other lifestyles but....
if these people want to continue theirs they need to oust some of these assholes that are engaging in criminal activites.

I don't believe that 416 of those kids were being abused on that compound. Sure they were being fed a strange religion and lifestyle that doesn't give with the rest of us and their education was piss-poor. But I don't believe that the bulk of those kids were receiving any abuse physically or sexually.

But there are a few leaders who seem to use their religious practices to take advantage of small children. Underage children should NOT be married and young boys should NOT be tossed out on the streets for threat of competition. There seems to be a few men in these cults hellbent on having as many wives as possible and they'll toss the extra boys out on the street.

What really worries me is if we don't work with these FLDS communties they will all just pack their bags and move to Mexico where perhaps they'll have less scrutiny by the government which means more abuse towards the children. I'd rather keep these FLDS groups here where we can monitor for horrid activities.

3. I suspect that any legitimate fundamentalist Mormons have long
since left the cult. There are many polygamist Mormons who are not affilitated with FLDS - their practices are winked at by the LDS, but they hold to LDS doctrine. FLDS has been exclusive, and reclusive, for generations and has been marrying off underage girls for decades - they were raided in the 50s for the same things as today. The problem is, those raised within the cult have no idea that they are in a cult - it all seems perfectly natural to them.

I think that half the men in the group should be in prison. The other half MIGHT integrate with normal society, or at least normal Mormon society.

5. If these people only had sex with ADULTS, no one would have gone
after them. It's because of a PERVASIVE culture that revolves around grooming children to accept sexual abuse, infant torture, and child abandonment as normal that has understandably led to the very wise decision of the authorities to remove ALL the children.

6. The issue is not lifestyle or religion. The issue is criminal activity
Do you believe that sexual relations between a grown man and an unwilling minor girl should be tolerated? Does the fact that the girl has been brought up to believe that such sexual relations and perpetual pregnancy are the only proper life for a female make any difference? What about the large body of evidence that this was accompanied by physical and emotional abuse?

Does the blanket of "religious belief" make all this better?

7. They know where they are
when a builder puts 12 bathrooms in a 23 bedroom house in Idaho or Arizona they know what is going on there and so do the police.
