Lawmakers want probe of college football bowl system
Source: AP

WASHINGTON — Forget government corruption or corporate fraud. Three members of Congress want the Justice Department to investigate whether college football's Bowl Championship Series is an illegal enterprise.

Reps. Neil Abercrombie, D-Hawaii, Lynn Westmoreland, R-Ga., and Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, are introducing a resolution rejecting the oft-criticized bowl system as an illegal restriction on trade. The resolution would require Justice's antitrust division to investigate whether the system violates federal law.

The measure also would put Congress on record as supporting a college football playoff.

"Who elected these NCAA people? Who are they to decide who competes for the championship?" Abercrombie said at a press conference Thursday on Capitol Hill, gripping a souvenir University of Hawaii football.

7. Has this country gone completely batshit insane?
Answer my own question.

YES IT FUCKING HAS!!!!

And they wonder why people don't waste their time voting anymore? Look at the dipshits on both sides of the aisle in Congress and the Senate.

When are we going to investigate something important, like corruption on American Idol or the Miss America Contest?!!! I'll even bet that Iron Chef is fixed!

Alcohol. I need alcohol. Just make it go away.:argh: :hurts:

18. Agreed. Our nation is clinically insane.
What does that mean, over the long haul if this trend remains unreversed and if it continues to get worse?

It means that, more as time goes on, that there is simply no bottom limit to the atrocities capable of being performed by such a nation, such a people.

I have said it before and I will say it a million times again, becasue it is so very true.

The people from history that the current living generations of Amerikan Subjects are closest to are the 1930s Germans who brought Hitler to power. Oh, our insanities are differnet insanities, though they were both purposely cultivated by evil people in order to secure power and end a republic, be it Weimar or American.

But they are in same "family" of insanity: The kind that gives tyrants power and fear disobedience let alone resistance.

In either case, we are insane and while it is not a certainty, it is a likelihood that, as we generations who were the last to be born in freedom grow older and die off, the ones who remain will be even more cowardly, more malleable, more detatched from reality as we are and the 1930s Germans were.

Even less of an impediment to future Bushie Emperors. What will the specifics of the atrocities be? No one can fully say. But there is no bottom limit and everything except a full-blown recreation of Nazi Germany is aboutthe only thing I can rule out, and quite frankly, over the next 50 years of Peak Oil and Climate Change, Oil Wars and Water Wars, I am not even fully comfortable ruling somethign like that fully out.

Because anything, anything is possible if you are a tyrantwho has successfully driven a nation insane while at the same time removing every last vestige of self-determination from a subject people, such as we Amerikans.

8. Guess they've milked the whole steroids in baseball thing enough.
The bowls are exhibition games, and the universities know they might not get in. If the BCS isn't doing a bait and switch, there's nothing illegal here. If the colleges don't like it, they can always form a new conference and decline to play in the existing ones anymore.

10. This is unbelievable
If Congress was sitting around trying to find work to do maybe - just MAYBE - they should be looking into this. But this is not anything the House or Senate should be spending any time on at all. Let the NCAA govern themselves.

I can't believe this.

in -- wait for it -- a BCS game?! As for Simpson, last I checked, Boise State was in Idaho, and the season before last, they went to -- you guessed it -- a BCS game.

In the words of the immortal Vinnie Barbarino, "I'm so confuuuuuused!"
