Web site says new Al-Zawahri statement on Iraq expected

CAIRO, Egypt - A Web site used by Islamic militants says Osama bin Laden's deputy will release a new statement soon.

The Internet site, known for militant messages, says the statement from al-Qaida's No. 2 leader, Ayman al-Zawahri, will discuss the five-year U.S. presence in Iraq. It is not clear whether it will be an audio or video recording.

The site says the statement is expected shortly but gives no details. The Thursday announcement — coming about a month after the fifth anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq — bears the logo of al-Qaida's media wing, al-Sahab.

CAIRO, Egypt - Al-Qaida's No. 2 claims in a newly released audio tape that five years of U.S. occupation of Iraq has brought only "failure and defeat."

Ayman al-Zawahri says Iraq is a problem the Bush administration will pass on to the next American president.

He says Bush was making a "ridiculous show to cover up for the failure" by acting on the advice of his top commander in Iraq and halting U.S. troop withdrawals after July.
