Denver won't 'cage protesters' at DNC
Source: Denver Post

Protesters will not be confined to "cages" during the 2008 Democratic National Convention, and the city wants to get away from the long lines of shoulder-to-shoulder, riot-gear-clad police that typified security at the national conventions in Boston and New York, Denver City Councilman Charlie Brown said today.

"We don't want to provoke violence," Brown said.

Brown said he talked with Mayor John Hickenlooper on Wednesday and that the two discussed "trying to get away from having lines of police officers."

Brown later asserted: "We aren't going to cage protesters."

The councilman made his comments before a group of about 50 students and others at the University of Denver law school, where local law groups are sponsoring a four-day series of workshops and discussions that offer training and tips for activists and protesters planning to demonstrate in and around convention week.

12. That's not what I heard.
They're lying about the Feds Cointelpro Op, putting in violent 'plants' in the crowd and stirring up the chaos. Sure, they won't cage them...they'll process them and put them away. Caging is for 'releases without charges'.

Getting all protesters into their system. There's profit in thar prison cells and DNA theft.

Feds to collect DNA from every person they arrest
By EILEEN SULLIVAN, Associated Press Writer
Wed Apr 16, 7:39 PM ET

WASHINGTON - The government plans to begin collecting DNA samples from anyone arrested by a federal law enforcement agency — a move intended to prevent violent crime but which also is raising concerns about the privacy of innocent people.

14. Would These Be the GOP Protesters Not Being Caged??
OF course GOP protesters would be free to exercise their rights. Nobody else has any, thanks to them.

17. Those are the ones
The wingnuts, watching their dream of a permanent Republican majority circle the drain, will be motivated to make Denver in 2008 look as much like Chicago in 1968 as they can. And Denver has now announced that it will aid and abet that effort.

Minneapolis will make no such concessions, no such announcements, and the coronation of Straight-Talkin' Johnny Maverick will go off like every other canned Republican production of the last 30 years. And the talking chuckleheads will marvel about how well the GOP can micromanage its quadrennial national appearance, and doesn't this speak well for how well it can run the country.

16. Technologically, there is no NEED to "cage".
The newest crowd control weapons (non-lethal but really painful) will take care of everything. There are heat concentraters and sound concentraters that will move a crowd back faster than any nightstick.
