Washington -- Rep. Roy Blunt accumulated $17,762 in legal fees during the first three months of the year, according to his latest campaign finance report.
The report shows the No. 2 House Republican, who must run for re-election in November, added $243,300 in contributions to his campaign account during the same period. His cash on hand was $1.03 million.
Blunt's spokeswoman said the legal fees to the Atlanta firm of McKenna, Long and Aldridge were for legal advice. Blunt and 12 other former and current lawmakers were subpoenaed in September stemming from the trial of former defense contractor Brent Wilkes. Wilkes was sentenced in February to 12 years in prison for bribing former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham of California.
Wilkes is appealing his conviction. Cunningham is serving an eight-year prison term after pleading guilty in 2005 to taking $2.4 million in bribes.
Attorneys for the House asked that the subpoenas be quashed or set aide. They argued that the Constitution protects members from being forced to disclose communications as part of their official duties. Blunt and the lawmakers never testified in the case.

Is Roy Blunt the next Rethug to go down in the Duke Cunningham related scandals? The money seems to point that way...
Will be interesting to watch to see if he gets an indictment soon. Anyone know if the US Attorney's in his area are one of those that they tried to fire? (like they did Carol Lam here)
