Dean urges McCain to rebuke Tancredo
Source: Denver Post

Democratic Party chairman Howard Dean today challenged John McCain to denounce Rep. Tom Tancredo's criticism of Pope Benedict XVI.

Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, Dean lambasted Tancredo and pushed the divisive immigration issue back into presidential politics.

"After years of failing to address immigration reform, the Republican Party has instead used the issue to scapegoat people to win elections," Dean said in a comment now posted on the Democratic Party's website.

"If McCain believes, as he has said, that 'these are God's children,' he should not stand by silently as Tancredo or anyone else in the Republican Party continues using immigrants as scapegoats or playing politics with immigration legislation," Dean said.

Tancredo on Thursday questioned whether the pope had urged the U.S. to embrace illegal immigrants because it would boost the church's membership.

2. You gotta give Tancredo credit for ONE thing ...
... he never disappoints. Just when you think he's totally run out of dumb shit to say, he comes up with something to top himself.

8. Is George W. Bush an accurate reflection of you?
As a former Littleton resident I can assure you that
Tom Tancredo does NOT accurately reflect the citizens of that city.

6. Excuse me Mr. Tancredo,
Catholics exist in other parts of the world - even Mexico and Rome. They don't need to come to the United States to become part of the freaking Catholic Church, dumbass.

7. Right. If they're already Catholic in Mexico, they'll not increase the Church.

10. I LOVE Howard Dean. Can you imagine Terry McAuliffe speaking out like that?
And there is a significant anti-Dean movement within the divided Democratic party.

That fact sickens my heart.

11. If Obama has to repudiate Rev. Wright . . .
Gee, the media fell all over itself to publicize and amplify certain remarks by Jeremiah Wright, and forced Barack Obama to have to answer for what Wright said, I wonder why the same principle doesn't appear to apply for Straight-Talkin' Johnny Maverick when it comes to on the record public remarks by a fellow elected Republican?

I'm sure Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopolous, after they've had a close consultation with Sean Hannity, will be able to explain it all for us, wise sages that they are.

14. A couple of reasons.
First, a lot of DUers reject the "guilt by association" that comes from seeking out a person and sitting in his church, calling him a mentor, and citing him as an authority. To say that somebody is guilty by association for belonging to a party that includes several million people makes the accusations against Obama iron-clad. We don't want to go there, do we?

The second is that we'd in for accusations of hypocrisy unless we also claim that Obama is now responsible for approving or rebuking every comment by every dem leader. He'd have to be a supporter of everything Pelosi and Reid do, or "rebuke"them.

How'd *that* be for headlines?

15. Tancredo thinks illegal immigration boosts church (Catholic) membership?
How would that work exactly. I don't get it. Someone explain. How does crossing the border make more Catholics? They aren't Catholics already?
