Governors Daughter Will Attempt To Block Release Of WVU Panels Investigation
Source: Pittsburgh Post Gazette

Sunday, April 20, 2008/ WV Governor Joe Manchins daughter, Heather Bresch, plans to use the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) to block the release of the WVU investigation report into the validity of her alleged 1998 MBA Degree. According to one source, she wants to use FERPA to the fullest extent of the law. That law is generally used to block outsiders from access to student records.

According to the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette sources, Heather Bresch has told West Virginia University she will not allow full disclosure of an upcoming report by an investigative panel reviewing the award of her M.B.A. degree in October.

In a closely related story: Another relative and former employee of West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin has returned $6,500 in state-paid tuition he received for taking classes that are part of West Virginia University's executive M.B.A. program. The payments include $3,744 that Nathaniel Manchin was entitled to under terms of the governor's office benefits policy, but returned on Jan. 30 after discussing public perceptions of the payment with the governor.

3. I Think I'll Write to My Old College
And ask if I can be awarded a degree I didn't earn when I left, seeing as though I've had so much work experience now.

4. That's quite a racket
You know, the Republicans are forever saying when they want to infringe upon your rights that "if you've nothing to fear, why not let us ... " - or something to that effect when they wanted to snoop into your habits or personal business.

I don't see what is wrong with finding the what and when in the classes she supposedly passed. It's terribly unfair to all those who paid their tuition and even to those who could not afford tuition but would have loved to have the opportunities she had.

It's unfair to the taxpayers who fund the university and the governors office for someone to come along with political, power and economic clout to circumvent the system. After reading this, if I were a taxpayer in that state, I would want to know if she earned that degree and proof she paid her full tuition.

5. Totally Agree
Your absolutely right.

Theres an old saying.... I'm not a veterinarian, but I know a horses ass when I smell one.

And it took an out of state newspaper to even break the story. WV media knew about it but did not want to touch it.

6. You know, there was a time
when politicians feared the press. The press acted as guardians in keeping governmental affairs balanced and in check.

As you said, an out of state newspaper broke this story; yet, think about how many times we've looked to the media outside our own country to tell us what is happening right here at home.

It's perverted that the press now fear the politicians that are entrusted to run our government.

Did you read this NY Times article yesterday about the Pentagon's use of media "military experts" as propaganda conduits? One who worked for Fox calls it "Mind War" — using network TV and radio to “strengthen our national will to victory.” Behind Analysts, the Pentagon’s Hidden Hand This website has a couple of good analysis of it. You'll be disgusted and saddened after reading it.

7. Lets Not Forget About The Cost To Investigate
So far, it has cost $22,000 just to have a panel investigate this new WV scandal. And that is just a drop in the bucket to the final cost.

I like what the alumi are saying.....

"Barbara Shaw, a former classmate and also a graduate in the 1998 class remembers the governors daughter joked about their MBA class standardized test. A requirement for students to be admitted into WVU's executive program. Shaw states, Ms Bresch said she didn't have to take it, and nobody was going to make her take it.

She also stated that "Her attitude was less than wonderful." When Ms Shaw was asked her opinion if Heather earned the credits to graduate? "I know she didn't complete the class at the time," and that "She would show up periodically. ... There were long periods when she was not there."

Other opinions were more direct…."Records destroyed???? Right, and the dog ate my homework. Shame!"

and "Good morning. I just wanted to ask how the cover-up is going?"

"You're going to need a whole lot of paint to whitewash this one."

8. I wonder about DimSon's records, both at Yale and Harvard.
He was a legacy at both universities. I wonder how much he attended class and whether the quality of work met the professors' expectations. I also wonder how much of the work he did himself, and how much he paid someone else to do for him.
