American charged with giving secrets to Israel
Source: MSNBC

NEW YORK - A U.S. Army mechanical engineer has been arrested on charges that he slipped classified documents about nuclear weapons to an employee of the Israeli Consulate, the Justice Department said Tuesday.

The arrest of Ben-ami Kadish was detailed Tuesday by the U.S. attorney in Manhattan and FBI officials.

A criminal complaint said the activities occurred from 1979 through 1985. Kadish worked at the U.S. Army's Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center in Dover, N.J.

The complaint said Kadish took home classified documents several times, and the Israeli government worker photographed them in Kadish's basement.

30. Perle's different
He's an agent of influence for Israel. Washington probably keeps a secret registry of Americans like Perle--people who do the bidding of a foreign government and not only get away with it, but are put in positions of power, able to drag this country into distant wars.

8. Interesting...this is when Jonathan Pollard was working
Jonathan Pollard was a civilian intelligence analyst working for the United States Navy...who received a life-without-parole sentence for selling Signals Intelligence data to the Israelis.

One of the things Pollard passed was the entire Radio Signals Notation (RASIN) Manual. I have no idea whatsoever how he got his hands on the whole thing--NO ONE has the whole RASIN Manual. You don't need it and it's huge--ten volumes, and each one is held together with seven-inch bolts. We had a class on American traitors one day, and we were discussing the Pollard case. The instructor was talking about this book, and someone asked how big it was. He put his finger on his nose and said, "if you piled it up, it would come up to here." The instructor was well over six feet tall.

But yeah, the Israeli secret services LOVE American No-Foreign-Dissemination information so much they're willing to run incompatible operations against their biggest ally to get it.

Israel is our friend! The only democracy in the Middle East! They wouldn't spy on us, would they?

:sarcasm:

If this guy is convicted of espionage, how long until a "Free Ben-ami Kadish" group gets into swing?

Proud Veteran And Liberal !

Probably because America plays the Middle East like a fiddle, Israel included. Do you really think that our oligarchy acts in any nations' interests, much less Americas interests? All they care about is money and empire. They screw their own people 7 days out of 7.

13. Giving them billions of dollars every year is in their interests.
They probably use it to help pay for their universal health care system.

Maybe we should cut the allowance every time we catch a spy and put that money towards health care for Americans.

16. It would pay for over half of Israeli health care
Israeli health care costs about 16-17 billion shekels ($4.5b) and the US subsidy is $2.5b - not counting loan guarantees, which add another $1.5b.

14. Israel is committed to a "go it alone" strategy.
Long ago, the Israelis realized that they had no true allies in the world. They officially documented their observations and embarked on a course of diplomatic independence. This is not an armed neutrality like that of Switzerland, but a very frank and clear realization that no nation is truly a friend to the Israelis.

And it's true. After fucking the Middle East royally, sooner or later America will scurry off with its tail between its legs, leaving Israel to face the music against the entirety of an enraged sub-continent.

One way to keep America around longer is to utilize the concept of dual citizenship among Americans of Jewish descent. Hence the heavy pro-Israeli bias of the American neoconservative movement.

Another way is to carefully document the wrongdoings of those same Americans, for insurance. That is why they followed around the 9/11 hijackers--in one case straight into the dirt--when our criminals pretended and continue to pretend that they didn't know it was coming.

Still a third way is to collect as much information as possible against the United States, for potential sale to the highest bidder or a new prospective ally should we ever do what they forever expect us to do--leave them high and dry.

The pragmatism of this position is readily apparent right here. Many of the readers here want to ditch the Israelis right now. Another, smaller portion wants to protect them. The largest portion doesn't know enough about the situation and couldn't be budged to give a damn. Almost none of them will refer to the concept of state sovereignty and how fragile that sovereignty is when faced with the law of the jungle and the "right" of conquest--or for that matter the "right of return."

But the Israelis know it, chapter and verse. That's why they're such assholes.

18. "...or for that matter the "right of return." "
Isn't that the basic foundation of early Zionism, their right to the land, as well as, the rationale for taking the land from the non Jewish locals?

I guess it's okay if your side does it but not if the other side feels the same "right".

36. That's just so.
Yes, it's a very hypocritical position and the Palestinians are quite in tune with that very phrase, now using to describe their own right to "return" to Palestine--and drive the Israelis "into the sea," as the euphemism goes in English.

I may have been a little opaque in that paragraph. The point I was trying to make is that Israel's own claim to sovereignty is rather shaky, and that fragile existence is part of what propels Israel toward its very independent and often dualistic statecraft.

But the other point worth remembering is that the Jewish people have in living memory survived one attempted genocide and two wars against Israel which were effectively designed to do the same thing. ('67 and '73 were both planned wars of annihilation by their numerous enemies; the fact that they spotted and launched the '67 war preemptively makes little difference, as the '73 war showed the same pattern on the part of their enemies and was not preempted by the Israelis.)

It will be nice when the USA realizes it too.

Israel has nukes. They can take care of themselves and they will be better off when they are no longer a subdivision of the US war machine.

25. News break. This is not just an israel thing
we spy on the UK. We spy on France and Russia. They spy on us. It is about money. It costs billions to develop a program like the w88 or guidance systems for SLBM systems.

That does not make this right but it is not a Israel thing.

27. You are using Viewzone as a serious source???
Just looking at that site, I find that they claim that it's been proved that many forms of cancer are caused by tainted vaccines administered in the 50s and 60s; that we can stimulate our amygdala in such a way as to release not only all manner of positive emotions but clairvoyance; that psychological experiments prove that we can predict the future at least short-term; that the two brain hemispheres constitute different personalities at war with each other; that there has long been technology that generates free energy but the powers-that-be are suppressing it. And more dubious stuff. My favourite quote from the site: "Psychic powers appear to be strongest when the center of our Galaxy is overhead."

As regards this particular article: it reminds me chillingly of McCarthyism. If you look at it, there is mostly no more convincing evidence than 'some reports claim that X has dual Israeli citizenship'. Since the majority of the people listed appear to be American-born with non-Israeli parents, I think it unlikely that most have dual citizenship. I suspect the author is just attributing dual citizenship to all Jews, or all whom he thinks *might* be Jewish (John Bolton certainly is not; nor can I think of any likely connection to Israel).

21. Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, anyone?
If they got the electric chair, he should too. Nuclear secrets are nuclear secrets, regardless of who they're stolen by or leaked to. The Rosenbergs were convicted in New York too, they died in Sing Sing, so there's precedent. This should go for the AIPAC spies too.

But... 1979-1985, and they're just finding out about this now?! That speaks very terribly of security on those secrets.

29. The Rosenbergs should not have got the electric chair...
There were a lot of flaws in the trial; and subsequent evidence suggests that Ethel at any rate was probably not guilty. In any case, the electric chair is barbarous.

Why use one flawed conviction and barbarous sentence as precedent for another?

31. Army engineer charged with passing secrets to Israel in '80s (related to Jonathan Pollard case)
Source: Associated Press

NEW YORK - An 84-year-old former U.S. Army mechanical engineer was arrested Tuesday on charges he slipped classified documents about nuclear weapons to an employee of the Israeli Consulate who also received information from convicted Pentagon spy Jonathan Pollard, authorities announced.

Ben-ami Kadish was charged in U.S. District Court in Manhattan with four counts of conspiracy, including allegations that he disclosed U.S. national defense documents to Israel and acted as an agent of the Israeli government.

Prosecutors say Kadish, a U.S. citizen who worked at an Army base in New Jersey, took home classified documents for six years and let the Israeli photograph them in his basement. Those documents included information about nuclear weapons, a modified version of an F-15 fighter jet, and the U.S. Patriot missile air defense system. Kadish's apparent motivation was to help Israel, prosecutors said.

<snip>

A criminal complaint said Kadish confessed to FBI agents on Sunday that he had given the Israeli between 50 and 100 classified documents and accepted no cash in return, only small gifts and occasional dinners for him and his family.
