Clinton wins Pennsylvania primary
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 08:30 PM by onehandle
Source: AP

PHILADELPHIA - Hillary Rodham Clinton has won the Pennsylvania primary, defeating Barack Obama and staving off elimination in a riveting race for the Democratic presidential nomination. The former first lady was winning 53 percent of the vote Tuesday night, compared with 47 percent for her rival. She hoped for significant inroads into Obama's overall lead in the competition for delegates to the Democratic National Convention.

Clinton scored her victory by winning the votes of blue-collar workers, women and whites in an election where the economy was the dominant concern. More than 80 percent of voters surveyed as they left their polling places said the nation was already in a recession.

"In the last 10 years Barack Obama has taken almost $2 million from lobbyists, corporations and PACs. The head of his New Hampshire campaign is a drug company lobbyist, in Indiana an energy lobbyist, a casino lobbyist in Nevada," said a Clinton commercial that aired in the final days of the race.

Obama responded with an ad that accused Clinton of "eleventh-hour smears paid for by lobbyist money." It said that unlike his rival, he "doesn't take money from special interest PACs or Washington lobbyists — not one dime."

10. The margins are tiny
A 53-47 win is only about 9 net delegates. Obama is going to net 15-20 from Carolina soon.

I'll support either candidate, but Hillary went from being about 160 delegates behind to 150 behind, and will be back at 160 behind in a couple of weeks. This is not a win in any meaningful sense of the word.

11. She doesn't care if it's "meaningful."
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 08:44 PM by travelingtypist
All she cares about is this race is still close enough for her to use the superdelegates to get the nomination. Period. Despite being behind in every meaningful metric, she sees herself as equal to Obama and entitled to do whatever is necessary to achieve her goal. She took her lessons from Schaife and Murdoch well.

36. Why waste your money on Clinton
You do that and see if she uses it to help Obama when it comes time for the general election. Fat chance. You are wasting your money. You might as well give it to the pubbies. giving it to Hillary is the same thing.

14. Brit Hume let it slip that the exit polls were showing Hillary winning by only 6 percent.
That's NINE more delegates for Hillary.

Meanwhile, Obama is ahead by about one-hundred and fifty pledged delegates.

Indiana is going to be another essential tie.

Oregon is going to be a decisive win for Obama, ten points or more.

North Carolina is going to be a wipe-out for Obama, close to twenty points or more.

Then there're Puerto Rico, South Dakota, Montana which have no population to speak of.

So . . . Obama ends up with an even bigger delegate spread going into the convention than he has now.

Hillary is doing nothing except dragging Obama down into the mud of politics as usual.

Way to go, beyotch.

33. Its not like she really won Tell her to Quit gracefully
What do you mean have some grace. She picked up enough delagates to like not make a difference at all. The one who needs to show some grace is Clinton as in Gracefully bow out of a campaign she can not win unless she totally wants to wreck the party.

She is selfish. Her only hope is to mess things up so bad that people say, "Ok sore loser Hillary, what do you want?" To which she will reply, "Obama can have a cabinet position."

Grace?!!! Give me a break. She can not win. Tell her to drop out of the race and quit hurting the party.

34. Obamabots did not implode they are
sickened by Hillary win at all costs (to the party). She is a wrecking ball that will not stop swinging until she is the nominee or the convention is reduced to rubble. I hate her for it. I see new people registering for the first time so they can vote Democrate and for Obama. She could care less. It is all about her.

38. Just stating facts and you are overwrought
It is you that is overwrought with emotionalism. You can not see the larger picture. Your team is hopelessly behind with no chance to win and you are cheering because it scored one. Meanwhile you are wearing out the one that will need to go the distance.

Stating facts does not make us sore losers. Yours is a cheap debating tactic. Revisit Logic 101 (if you ever took the course in the first place). Assigning false motives to an opponant might be a common debate tactic but no one ever falls for it. Certainly not anyone on here.

and i still think its sore loserman of you. i'm voting for john edwards in the GE, so, see i don't have a horse in your two person race, but your tactics are those of someone who cannot lose gracefully ... and worse yet, you refuse to admit you lost.

42. Admission. We lost Pennsylvania but the nomination
we won. There is no way Clinton can get enough delegates to win the nomintion. So, I will admit that Clinton won Pennsylvania and Obama wins the nomination. I will also apologize if I was acting like a sore loser but I don't think so. Maybe I should have just held my comments and not made them on the day Clinton supporters had something to cheer about.

25. How many of Sen. Clintons' votes came from the right-tards?
Everyone knows that the dittodorks and hannity lickers have been voting for Sen. Clinton in Democratic primaries since the process began. Then those "elitist" comments from Sen. Obama sent those who can't understand his "fancy" words running to the Clinton camp. And then, of course, there are probably a certain number of "at least she's not black" idiots who vote for her, as well.

Whatever. Sen. Obama will be the nominee.
