McCain Slams N.C. GOP for Anti-Obama Ad
Source: WRAL News

RALEIGH, N.C. — Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Wednesday asked the North Carolina Republican Party to pull a new ad that criticizes Democratic candidate Barack Obama – as well as the two leading Democratic gubernatorial candidates.

snip

"I have been committed to running a respectful campaign based upon an honest debate about the great issues confronting America today. I expect all state parties to do so as well. The television advertisement you are planning to air degrades our civics and distracts us from the very real differences we have with the Democrats," McCain wrote.
"We need to run a campaign that is worthy of the people we seek to serve. There is no doubt that we will draw sharp contrasts with the Democrats on fundamental issues critical to the future course of our country. But we need not engage in political tactics that only seek to divide the American people," he wrote.

Despite the complaint, state GOP officials said they plan to run the ad.

3. Well, that's nice, but the cat is out of the bag
and now the story is generated, meaning that the MSM bobbleheads will play the ad for free over and over again so that we can discuss the controversy. McCain makes a nominal "denunciation" and gets credit for his fair-mindedness.

On the other hand, maybe he is being sincere in that he has his own nutball pastors that he does not want dragged into this fray.

6. Let's get MoveOn to do an ad about McCain and Hagee or the Keating 5
and then Obama can come out with a denouncement. :-)

5. The party is emailing the ad all over the place. The news reports serve to
create INTEREST in the thing.

If you see someone with their nose in the paper saying "Oh my GAWD, why...that's just AWFUL!!!!!" what's the first thing you say?

"WHAT??? What is so awful???"

That's what they're doing with this ad, ya see....

As for "distancing"--this is distancing on STEROIDS. He's doing it WAY better than Bush ever did. Guess he learned a bit about dirty politics when he ran against the Chimp, and he's taken it to the next level--all while keeping his hands lovely and clean.

McCain sent a letter to Daves, asking her not to run the ad, which he called "offensive."

"I have been committed to running a respectful campaign based upon an honest debate about the great issues confronting America today. I expect all state parties to do so as well. The television advertisement you are planning to air degrades our civics and distracts us from the very real differences we have with the Democrats," McCain wrote.

There is no doubt that we will draw sharp contrasts with the Democrats on fundamental issues critical to the future course of our country. But we need not engage in political tactics that only seek to divide the American people," he wrote.

Despite the complaint, state GOP officials said they plan to run the ad.

7. I don't blame McCain for being upset--the considerate thing to do
was wait until Obama got nominated first.

9. Sure he slams it
but I'd wager real $$$ that he or his team helped plan the ad. He's trying to get it both ways just like the slime bag he really is.

10. Now he needs to denounce the N.C. GOP and the officials who are running the ad against his will.
Let's see if he means what he says or is playing McShame games learned from BushCo.

11. Good Cop (mcsame) Bad Cop (gop) All the way to victory! Wow! d/n see that comin'!!!
Wow! This is such a brilliant tactic. I wonder who ever thought it up?

Sounds like when Bush refused to meet the evil Log Cabiners in '00 - but then sneaking in for the interview 2 days later (even more brilliant 'cause it only took 1 person) But hey! Wait! Didn't mcsame do the just exact same thing a few days ago sending Arnold Schwartzenn.. (whatever) to to see the evil Log Cabiners? Totally brilliant! These guys are so smart, I'll bet they can really govern up a country. You betcha!

12. UPDATE: NC GOP defies RNC and McCain, will air ad
The North Carolina GOP will still run an ad featuring Barack Obama's pastor despite the pleas of the RNC and John McCain himself, according to a spokesman for the state party.

"Yes, the ad will air," said Brent Woodcox, communications director for the North Carolina GOP.

RNC chairman Mike Duncan has been in contact with the state party asking them to not run it and McCain sent an unequivocal email to the North Carolina GOP chairwoman urging the same.

Also, Woodcox sent over a defense of the spot, which I've updated in the original post with the ad down below.

15. They are scared shitless of further alienating AA voters at the very time he trying to "reach out"
to them. I'll at least give him a little credit for this though. It's good lip service at the very least. (What will he say though about what their evil 527's do?)

17. Clever way to attack down ticket candidates and Obama
This is an in-your-face attack on our state-wide candidates (for gov. in this case) using Obama and his associates as the weapon. The Repubs also get in an attack on Obama without it being viewed as racist.

This adds a new wrinkle to the worries many have about whether Obama might hurt down-ticket contests in the general election.

19. Fortunately my state
finally gets a real say in the political future of our country, our votes truly do count for something this year. Unfortunately my state has way to many wacko Repugs that muck up everything. I'm glad McCain came out against the ad, but it won't matter. NC GOPs will do what they want....Hopefully my absentee ballot will count and not be lost/challenged etc...

Yeah, right, Righteous John.
And he said that with the certain knowledge that the NC repukes will continue running the ad.

He has the calm confidence of a Christian holding 4 aces.
