Soldier killed by small-arms fire in Baghdad

BAGHDAD — The military says a soldier has been killed during a gunbattle in a Shiite militia stronghold in Baghdad.

Military spokesman Lt. Col. Steve Stover says the soldier was wounded by small-arms fire Wednesday afternoon and died later at a U.S. military hospital.

As of Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at least 4,047 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes eight military civilians. At least 3,299 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

The AP count is one more than the Defense Department's tally, last updated Wednesday at 10 a.m. EDT.

4. It makes me sick how the media never even mentions the deaths.
The talk about it when it reached 1,000...then 2,000...then 3,000...and 4,000. Every death in between these magic numbers does not count. They never show the flag draped coffins. Every death should be the top story of every newscast in the nation every single day. That would end this occupation a lot faster. People don't even think about them at all. They are too busy running to the mall, etc. I try to think of them and pray for them every day. The two people I know that had to go to Iraq are both back safely...thank God. Thank you maddezmom for all the relevant news. I have noticed and read your posts on the most important things. There is so much going on other than the primary crap. I appreciate your posts and click on them every time I see them. :hi:
