Gun dealer who sold weapon to Seung Hui Cho scheduled to visit Virginia Tech Thursday
Source: WDBJ 7

Strong reaction tonight to a visit scheduled on the Virginia Tech campus Thursday.

The visitor is a gun dealer from the mid-west. He freely admits he sold a gun to Tech shooter Seung Hui Cho and gun equipment to Steven Kazmierczak, the shooter at Northern Illinois University.

Both shooters Cho and Kazmierczak bought gun equipment from the same company, a retailer out of Wisconsin that has more than 100 websites.

Now the owner of that company is holding lectures. He says he now has a "special responsibility" to prevent future tragedies.

1. If he follwed the law, he should not feel responsible for
every nut who goes off the deep end having happened to have bought their weapon from him.

If his company runs over 100 web sites, it's probably difficult NOT to encountert them as a possible source. (The point is, WalMart as a possible retailer for a bike.)

He could have washed his greasy hair for the photo! :puke:

6. He wasn't concerned about himself he said, but about his message getting out.
(so that congress doesn't BAN his ass and shut down his 100 online gun dealerships).

2. I live in Green Bay where this place operates.
Ive purchased items from this seller before. They always followed proper procedures and paperwork. If your looking for a shady dealer, look elsewhere.

The problem is, when you sell to someone who isnt a criminal, who then commits a criminal act, what do you do??

3. Oh, his special responsibility is to sell more guns
"So, for the next two weeks, Wisconsin gun dealer Eric Thompson will be selling firearms at cost. He says he wants to make it cheaper and easier for people to carry guns to protect themselves.

Thompson says he wants the next news story to be about how he sold a gun to someone who stopped a mass murderer."

4. And everyone knows guns are the answer.
Anyone who wishes to reply to my post with some snarky comment can go f*ck themselves. Imagine those kids. They don't need to carry a weapon, they need to study and attend class.

5. one of the most brilliant marketing strategies of all time.
it's right up there with "let's blow up a country, then hire the vice president's former employer to rebuild it."

let's create fear and hysteria and make it absolutely clear that we're going to let psychos buy and continue to buy guns. then let's convince those with some sense that they need to buy and carry guns, too. let's take it a step further and tell people they can carry guns anywhere at any time -- church, national parks, schools.

the results? CHA-CHING!

it's all about the money. not one whit of it is about human lives or people protecting themselves.

start firing up the coals in hell. this guy's on his way.

20. Virginia Tech Gun Dealer Offers Student Discount
The owner of an Internet-based firearms store that sold a gun to Virginia Tech shooter Seung-Hui Cho says he is now offering a discount for students who want to carry guns on campus to protect themselves. The company, TGSCOM Inc., also sold two 9mm Glock magazines to Steven Kazmierczak, who killed five people at Northern Illinois University earlier this year ...

A spokesperson for Virginia Tech said that Thompson's remarks and offer are "incredibly insensitive to the families of the victims who lost loved ones, and to the injured students still recovering from this horrendous tragedy," said Larry Hincker, the Associate Vice President for University Relations.

"He's arming the criminals and then telling the rest of us to buy guns so we can protect ourselves from the criminals he's armed," said Peter Hamm, communications director for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence ...

"What this shows is that to the gun industry, gun violence is at best an abstract concept and at worst a business opportunity," said Josh Sugarmann, the Executive Director of the Violence Policy Center ...

8. His prices are not bad
But they are not at cost, plus, at $19.95, his shipping is three times what it should be. USPS charges $7.95 to ship a handgun.

9. It is illegal to ship a handgun via USPS
So I assume you mean UPS. While the shipping cost my be 7.95, you have to add insurance and packaging to the cost.

11. FFL to FFL
Federal dealers can and do ship to other FFLs USPS priority mail for $7.95.

UPS and FedEx must go overnight, which pushes the price tag to ~$50.

28. Only if you have a FFL
It cost 20 bucks to ship a handgun using USPS if it's shipped certified/registered.

Non FFL holders have to use UPS or Fedex, shipping it overnight. Cost=55.00. This is for handguns only. Non FFL holders can ship a long gun through USPS.

Absolutely no consience at all. THIS is what is wrong with this country. Too many conscienceless assholes aiding and abetting criminals. I hate guns and I hate people who like guns.

32. Oh... who CARES about that little fact.

It's precisely because of the sentiment expressed by alarimer that gun manufacturers and dealers have immunity from that sort of "stick it to'em" mentality.

The ironic part is that he/she asks "what is wrong with this country?", and bemoans about "too many conscienceless assholes".
Some people just can't see the mirror in front of their face.

13. The problem isn't necessarily this guy
Edited on Thu Apr-24-08 10:14 AM by brentspeak
It was the lax laws that allowed disturbed individuals to all-too-easily legally purchase firearms in the first place. The best way to prevent potential mass-murderers from getting their hands on guns is to have local and state police personally vet gun permit applicants, i.e, interviews with the applicant, the neighbors, friends, etc. Computerized background checks are too limited because they only list whatever legal infractions may have been entered into record.

18. Dealer of gun used in Va. Tech shootings visits campus
4/24/2008, 10:26 p.m. EDT
By SUE LINDSEY
The Associated Press

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — The online weapons dealer who sold one of the guns used in the Virginia Tech shootings visited the campus Thursday, a decision the school's spokesman called "terribly offensive."

Dealer Eric Thompson spoke at the school Thursday night as part of a weeklong demonstration in favor of allowing people to carry concealed weapons at colleges ...
