Source: lawmakers to get video evidence on Syrian facility
Source: AP

WASHINGTON - U.S. intelligence officials will show members of Congress a videotape laying out the evidence that Syria was building a nuclear reactor with North Korean assistance before it was bombed by Israeli planes in September 2007, a U.S. official said Wednesday.

Intelligence officials who have seen the evidence consider it "extremely compelling," the U.S. official said. He spoke on condition of anonymity of the sensitive nature of the information.

The Syrian reactor was similar in design to a North Korean reactor that has in the past produced small amounts of plutonium. It was not yet complete but was far enough along to demonstrate a resemblance to the North Korean reactor at Yonbyon.

The U.S. official said no uranium_ the fuel for a reactor_ was evident on site.

8. Syria 'had covert nuclear scheme'
Source: BBC News

The United States has accused North Korea of helping Syria build a nuclear reactor that "was not intended for peaceful purposes".

The site, said to be like one in North Korea, was bombed by Israel in 2007.

Syria must "come clean" about its secret nuclear programme, the White House said in a statement after CIA officials briefed members of Congress.

Syria has repeated denials that it has any nuclear weapons programme, or any such agreement with North Korea.

12. What was really bombed in Syria last year?
I seem to remember that there was no evidence that those buildings were part of a nuclear program.

I wonder what was in the building?

16. Cheney camp 'behind Syrian reactor claim'
... Mike Chinoy, from the Pacific Council on International Policy, says the claim needs to be taken in its political context, as North Korea's denuclearisation reaches a critical stage.

"Everything I'm hearing from my own sources in Washington is that what you have now is a kind of push back by Vice-President Cheney and his office and other hardliners who are opposed to diplomatic dealings with North Korea," he said.

" hoping that by making public these allegations of nuclear cooperation it will torpedo the diplomatic process" ...

17. US allegations raise questions (BBC)
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk.nyud.net:8090/media/images/44598000/jpg/_44598926_bbc226bodygone.jpg

By Jonathan Marcus
Diplomatic correspondent, BBC News

... Many experts - not least in the US - were sceptical after the air strike, doubting that the target was actually a nuclear reactor.

And they are going to require more public evidence before they will be convinced.

If this was a clandestine nuclear programme, was it, as the administration contends, intended to develop a plutonium-based bomb?

If so, where are the other facilities that would be needed for such a project; a plutonium separation plant or a centre to actually assemble a weapon? ...

18. What's so fucking funny is that when the cons start screaming about liberals not wanting to deal
with this, they'll fail to remember that it's their dumbshit war in Iraq that prevents us from dealing with things like this.

20. Syria should have debunked the story by giving the MSM access to the site while the smoke was still
billowing into the air .

Syrians just added to the "mystery" by refusing any and all access to the 'sensitive' area imo.
