Scotts Ordered to Halt Selling Some Pesticides (A Miracle-Gro Lawn fertilizer and weed killer)
Source: WSJ

The Environmental Protection Agency ordered Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. to stop selling certain pesticides that were unregistered and misbranded.

The company also said that on April 10 it learned of a governmental investigation which it believes is being led by the Department of Justice, the EPA and the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

The maker of lawn-care products has agreed to recall its Miracle-Gro Shake 'n Feed with Weed Preventer All-Purpose Plant Food and fertilizer products used by a company service that tends to household lawns. The company said it no longer uses that product, which has never been available for sale to the consumer.

Scotts said it has been cooperating with the government since it learned of the investigation. The company said it doesn't believe either of the products poses any unreasonable risk to human health or the environment.

The agency does not yet know how much of the unregistered material has been sold or is sitting in stores - or what is in it. Ms. Gade says the company did not register the pesticides with the government, as required by law. Laboratory results, due in about two weeks, will reveal the products' composition.

Scotts is using a new unidentified ingredient and wants the public to be assured it is safe because they say so. "The company said it doesn't believe either of the products poses any unreasonable risk to human health or the environment."

We refuse to tell you what is in it, but trust us, it is safe.

2. Look at the nice, green, pretty, environmentally unfriendly, toxic yard!
There's no way in hell I'd ever use any sort of chemical product on my yard. It not only poisons insects, birds and other wildlife, but people as well. I'd rather see the birds in my front yard and the fox running across the back yard than an artificially green yard.

3. I had a dog
I used to take him for walks around where I live. He loved to walk on grass rather than pavement. As we'd go along, we'd often come across the lush green Weed n' Feed lawns and he would NOT walk on it, he actually preferred the hot concrete to it.

Sadly said dog (who'd spent much of his life in around this type of grass before I got him) died of cancer.

I don't have this type of grass around my house (no chemicals allowed!).

13. Unreasonable risk!
Just what is a reasonable risk for a water-wasting lawn? I consider the bees pollinating my fruit trees to be a reasonable risk.
