Fallon: Petraeus At Centcom Doesn't Mean War With Iran
Source: The Tampa Tribune

TAMPA — As the new head of U.S. Central Command, Gen. David Petraeus will have to deal with Iran's continued influence in the Middle East.

But his nomination shouldn't be viewed as a step closer to war, said Adm. William Fallon, who abruptly resigned as Centcom commander in March.

"I don't think this is at all a sign there's some kind of imminent action," Fallon said during a brief phone interview today. "This is a story that won't seem to go away."

...

Fallon said today that he and Petraeus share similar views "regarding the negative influence of Iran pushing into Iraq."

He said Petraeus will have to grow an appreciation for the role Iran is playing overall in the region. But, he said, imminent military action is not a realistic idea.

"We're going to deal with this situation," Fallon said, and "try to find ways to get these guys to act in a way we'd like to see."

1. Yes, with his sterling record of admantly supporting the best military strategy, in spite of
poltical pressure, oh wait, never mind, confused him with all the FIRED generals who tried to do that.

2. There's a good reason the story won't go away, Admiral
Cheney and Bush want to steal Iran's oil, and Petraeus is disinclined to stop them. That sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

6. Hydra says
" Cheney and Bush want to steal Iran's oil,"

Well Iran wants to steal Iraq's oil, so what's your point? The more oil, the more influence. Irans( or possibly Turkeys) excuse will be to stop the kurdish rebels. That will be eithers reason to invade northren Iraq.

Despite all the promise by Obama or Hillary we will not have an pullout of Iraq anytime soon. To many possible problems. The make such promises to get the ignorant to vote for them. They say they will but in reality they won't.

9. Welcome to DU
But I stand by my point. We may very will irradiate a country simply for money.

As to our leaders promising a pullout, they really haven't. They throw a lot of "maybe's" and "conditionals" around without committing to ending an illegal invasion on our part.

Call me crazy, but I'm still looking for the people in this country that care about rule of law. If I can't find any, that will be my official sanction to pursue illegal behavior of my own.
