Bahrain May Appoint Jewish Woman As Envoy To U.S.
Source: All Headline News

Manama, Bahrain (AHN) - Bahrain could be the first among several Persian Gulf states to appoint a Jewish woman as the country's ambassador to the United States.

Speculation in political circles here is rife that Shura (Consultative) Council member Houda Ezra Nonoo might be considered to the post.

Houda told AHN, "There is nothing official, but I have been informed that there are other contenders for the position."

The current ambassador to the U.S., Dr. Naser M. Y. Al Belooshi, was appointed in August 2005.

2. She's very brave.
If I were a Jewish woman, I'd be afraid to show-up at Bush's White House.

6. It's been more than 25 years now since I was there
That's good to hear.

My siblings went to school with one of the al-Khalifa family (can't remember his exact relation, but immediate). They thought he was an ok guy, IIRC.

So hearing this is good - younger generations maybe willing to change. When my family was there, the whole reason this tiny little piece of island was successful was that they relaxed the very strong rules against what would be considered "normal" western behavior (like drinking for foreigners) and welcomed western business. I still absolutely bristled at having to have an escort to leave the house and still being hassled in the suq, but boy, it was better there than SA, that's for sure!

7. by some standards
Baharain is one of the more moderate countries in the Gulf. The Saudi well to do spend their weekends in Baharain for a cold beer, ham sanwichs and a Gulf Air Stewardess to go.
