1. They would do well...
To smack Unca Lurch in the ass with a big needle full of ketamine and put him in a locked closet for a while. He's spinning out of control.

4. People seem to forget Halliburtons trouble with accounting fraud
(recent) in which they counted overruns on contracts for construction - which they often later try to get some compensation for (but rarely fully get) - as REVENUES.

I believe around that time there were also charges of defrauding/cheating the government.

They are also under prosecution (i think) in France for bribing officials of an African government.

Irregularities in their contract that gouges taxpayers for importing oil to Iraq has been documented.

Employees of Halliburton have been fingered (and ceremoniously fired) for taking 6 million in bribes in Kuwait relating a subcontract.

... But Halliburton is a victim of critics... right Dick - sorry but professional victim doesn't look good on you.

2. Touching ...
to hear of Halliburton's selfless good works in Iraq. How public spirited of them to make the noble self-sacrifice of applying for the tenders.

Perhaps they could go for charitable status so we could all donate?

3. What's the logic of this?
He first says they're a "great" company and then says they've had 15 people killed. I guess the more people that get killed, the greater it is? If that's the case, yes indeed, he and dumbya are truly headed for greatness.

Oh well, at least the article mentions his continuing interests in the company.

5. Already paid back 6.3 million
There will be possibly more over the gas overcharges. Sure nice of Cheney to attempt to whitewash everything for them. NPR yesterday said that Halliburton was going to advertise to make their image appear better. Ha- they should just pay back the taxpayers and we would feel a whole lot better. Don't add insult to injury by spending our money on some dang commercial.
Cheney must feel real bad when he goes to the bank and has to think about the 15 flag draped Halliburtonites who got 3 cents on the dollar.

6. well, whether you like it or not
that's the kind of non-apologetic leadership that the republicans are so great at, but the Dems suck at.

If he was a Dem, he would have apologized, promised to look into any wrongdoings, would have said "I regret any improprieties ..." and would NOT have stood up for them.

This is why the republicans rule the world and the Dems do not

14. that's because when Dems make any attempt
they are CRUCIFIED by the corporate media; republicans simply are NOT held accountable for what they say OR do.

15. They don't rule for long.
Because what they rule they destroy.

And fascist behavior is not an acceptable model for anyone.

8. Chicken Dick quote that made me spit my coffee
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 09:18 AM by havocmom
"Some of our adversaries on the other side of the aisle can't find any legitimate policy difference ... so they try to make it personal, ..."

Umm, wasn't that the M.O. with the republican side of the aisle when there was a democrate in the WH? Seem to recall that dem in the WH didn't engage in raiding the US Treasury nor wast the taxpayer's dime doing PR work for any company he got retirement checks from.

edit: typo

13. My favorite quote
"I don't have anything to do with the contracting process, and I wouldn't know how to manipulate the process if I wanted to."

:wtf: :eyes:

This from the man who told USA Today/LA Times:
"Am I the evil genius in the corner that nobody ever sees come out of his hole? It's a nice way to operate, actually."

He's lying out both sides of his crooked mouth.

9. Widdle Dicky is upset?
The rats backed into the corner and is trying to chew his way out of it? Tough shite. Gloves are off, time to go after the rodents on the sinking ship before they drown in the waters of their own lies.
Strike while the Iron is Hot, Dems.

10. Remember also one of the very first Clinton-era rules Cheney overturned
was the rule where companies that had been convicted of defrauding the government on contracts were banned from getting future contracts. And Halliburton was one of those companies. They got rid of that rule on about the 2nd day they were in office.

12. So, if I'm caught with my hand in the cookie jar
I can just say, "Oops, nevermind, here's your money back." and everything is forgiven??

Tell that to the judge.

These hypocrites kill me.

This is the administration of "Do as I say, not as I do."

16. It's just the dead enders from the former administration.
They just won't admit that fairness and decency are dead forever.

Or something like that.
