Michigan Jobless Rate Hits 7.2%
<snip>

Michigan’s annual average unemployment rate in 2003 was 7 percent, according to preliminary figures from the state. That marks an increase from the 2002 average of 6.2 percent. It’s the state’s highest annual jobless rate since 7.1 percent in 1993.

1. Jobless Rate hits 6% in Ohio...
Jobless Rate Hits 6.0%
January 23, 2004

The state's unemployment rate is up. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services says Ohio's rate increased to 6 percent in December, from 5.7 percent in November. Officials say the rate increased in December mostly because there were more holiday job seekers than available jobs.

Morgan County had the highest unemployment rate in December at 16.9 percent, and Holmes County had the lowest rate at 2.8 percent.

The number of unemployed workers in Ohio was 351,000 in December, up from 334,000 in November.

2. Hey relax..................
the Bush administration managed to add......1,000 new jobs in December! That's 200 new jobs per state! Everything's coming up roses I tell ya'.
If these states go Repuglican in November then the future of this country is sealed. How people can still support Dubyoo the Monkey Boy after statistics like this is a sad commentary on the thought process of American voters. Thanks, Liberal Media!

4. You made a mistake
200*50=10000
you are off by a factor of ten B-)
their economic policies accounted for a whopping 20 jobs per state, not 200.

5. Crime rates, drug use will soar
as poverty increases..drive through my town every day and see nothing but houses for sale, and businesses closing their doors..my sons restaurant is going under..he left, got the hell out of here, went to Seattle with his brothers to get the hell out of this state..I cant blame him, altho I miss them all...I am glad they got out of here...horrible horrible as so many people are so desperate..
Ill tell you one thing..every Friday I stand on the street corner with the pics of all the dead soldiers and signs to bring the troops home, and at first people sort of looked oddly at us..
Now they wave and honk
and thumbs up
the tide is turning.

7. "1.85m new jobs due to be created..."
... more likely in China, India, Philippines, etc. A major export of the US is jobs.

11. I don't remember if the article specifically stated the BS 1.8m jobs...
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 02:30 PM by sfg25
were targeted for the US. I guess we were all to assume that since it came from the WH mouthpiece.

Of course we all know it's utter BS. Especially with their latest track record of 1,000 jobs in 1 month.

9. This is so depressing!
(snip) U.S. Unemployment Rate -- Tops E.U.
The "official" unemployment rate in the United States is 5.7 (December 2003) percent, a contradiction to the actual number of unemployed men and women in the United States which stands at 16,265,736. The United States government only keeps you "unemployed" for six months, whether or not you find a job. The Labor Department reports that an additional 300,000 workers "gave-up" seeking employment and fell out of the labor pool (an average monthly share throughout 2003.) Some 6,700,000 professionals have given-up job their job search after their unemployment benefits ended. Employers added no hope, creating only 1,000 jobs as opposed to economists predictions of 153,000 new jobs.

Job creation is a hot topic during this election year; and while the White House statisticians report the lowest unemployment rate in 14-months, during President George W Bush's reign the economy has lost 2.3 million professional jobs. . No matter which political party owns the White House, keeping the true numbers of unemployed artificially low boosts the perception of job creation and economic growth.

Unemployment rates
at a glance:
United States 9.7 percent
European Union 8.8 percent
Japan 5.2 percent
France 9.6 percent
Germany 9.3 percent
Canada 7.6 percent
United Kingdom 4.9 percent
Italy 8.5 percent

According to the Los Angeles Times, the true number of unemployed in the U.S.A. tops 16 million. The number of professionals in part-time or freelance work while waiting-out their job hunt is 4.9 million, and 1.5 million professionals seek jobs due to imminent layoffs, added too 9 million already unemployed -- the US-unemployment is the highest in 20 years. The actual percentage of "unemployed" in the United States is 9.7 percent, up .3 percent from 2002.
