Kerry Takes to Ice With Hockey Greats
MANCHESTER, N.H. (Reuters) - John Kerry, leading the pack of Democratic presidential candidates in New Hampshire, laced up his skates on Saturday and took to the ice with some legendary hockey stars from the Boston Bruins.

Wearing a University of New Hampshire jersey, a relaxed Kerry skated onto the ice in Manchester to join such former greats as Ray Bourque and Cam Neely from the Boston Bruins -- a team the Massachusetts senator has been devoted to since his childhood.

Actor-comedian Denis Leary suited up in a Boston uniform to join the two mixed teams made of hockey stars, celebrities and some local high-school students.

(snip)

Kerry skated out easily in the warm-up and U-2's "Beautiful Day" was blasted through the building as he was introduced.

(snip)

Then he put on a helmet and went on to score the first goal for the home team -- an equalizer -- as the crowd chanted: "Kerry, Kerry, Kerry!" and the speakers blared: "We will, we will rock you."

;-)

I'll tell you what -- I'll reconsider my opposition to Kerry if, next time, he gives Bush a cross-check (instead of a blank check)...

Pucks would just bounce right off ...

But seriously, it's nice to see candidates who appreciate winter sports. Bush says he doesn't even like snow ...

12. Kerry loves to Kite-surf...which requires more than balancing a Segway

Kitesurfing....

it would really be GREAT to see Kerry in Texas on a horse....
Kerry is also a hunter...and is a damn good shot...none of that bush*/cheney token-hunting where they let hundreds of game birds out right in front of them...Kerry is the REAL DEAL

Therefore, the proper proununciation should probably be "vigah" as opposed to "vigor". ;-)

Hmmm... Senator from Massachusetts... Initials "JFK"... War hero... Wealthy family connections... Got good hair... Filled with vigah...

23. If he doesn't get the presidential nomination
I am sure we would give him honorary citizenship in Canada - it looks like he would make a great P.M., he looks like a natural on the ice.

If he takes on *, I hope he makes sure to keep his elbows up in the corners.

24. Sorry to be a lead balloon, but
I don't see skating on the ice to rack up primary voters very "presidential". I also didn't like his stunt of pretending to smoke weed during a recent on-stage performance.... and they berate Dean for motivating his own supporters who walked miles for him knocking on doors. Incredible.

The ice capades decide our president now.

25. Hockey is like NASCAR kind of?
This is the best political theater I've seen all week! I think we are seeing what candidates need to do in order to get in touch with the common man. You can't fake ice skating, Kerry really looks good!

Does Edwards have any NASCAR abilities?

29. Pre-game announcer/player Leary said 'Kerry was the only one who came
Edited on Sun Jan-25-04 02:59 AM by dArKeR
to support the deaths (of some firemen in one of there big warehouse fires.) No cameras and no media an no one but Kerry came to help us. (AWOL) just came to Ground Zero for a photo op and left us.' I saw Leary say this on the cspan broadcast.

Later that night on ABC news they showed a quick clip of Kerry skating, (and he's a good skater for his age and lack of practice!!!!), then cut to Kerry being endorsed by an evironmental group.

If this isn't material to RICO the media and show their blatant Fascist Repukism, then what is?

31. This was good
I hope you all saw this on C-Span. It was GREAT.

Hockey is a TOUGH sport at any age. Man, he looked so damned good.

It was REAL. Why would anyone say it isn't "presidential" to do this? Writers write. Singers sing. Golfers play golf. Hockey players play hockey. Kerry can do this, and he did it well. He was relaxed and he was having fun.

It was a good photo op but you know what? It was true, unlike Dubya putting on a flight suit and prancing around on an aircraft carrier. Kerry put on a hockey uniform so that he could play hockey. Imagine that.

It led to a little too much hard blowing for some of the more delicate citizens, so maybe hockey this time around.

37. Well, I have to chime in.
I totally approve. He looked great, and dammit, what's wrong with an older guy taking care of himself enough to play a little hockey? My father-in-law's 61 and still plays from time to time in his geezer league (his team: the Ice Holes).

Play to your strengths, I say. If you got it in you to hang out on the ice with Ray Bourque and not make an ass of yourself, more power to ya.

43. You're gonna love this
I occasionally read the freerepublic to see what the opposition is thinking. I saw a thread about Kerry that discussed his activities as a Vietnam vet and some of the posters were not even aware he was a Vietnam vet and were posting that they thought he probably had some soft cushy job there and the Silver Star etc. were bogus. I posted a links to 2 stories about his service including this one:

http://www.boston.com/globe/nation/packages/kerry/061603.shtml

with no commentary from myself. When I checked back some of the posters read the link and subsequently agreed he acquited himself well in battle and even calling for the topic of questioning his service to be dropped unless evidence surfaced to the contrary. The moderator had removed my posts and the links however.

I'm not yet sure if I'm a huge raving fan or Kerry (although I would certainly support and vote for him in a nanosecond over Bush) but I just couldn't let these ignoramuses question the guy's Vietnam service of all things. And now the moderator doesn't even let the other bozos who hadn't seen the link yet to read and decide for themselves... I guess I won't be checking that site out too much in the future...

44. Oh, those FReeps are hilarious
They think it's just the funniest thing to keep repeating they didn't know he was a Vietnam vet. It's an inside joke. And besides, they think their hero, the Chimpster, risked his worthless life by flying those obsolete jets. He'd have crapped his pants if he'd been in Kerry's shoes.
