Queen to Give Knighthood to Bill Gates
Queen to give knighthood to Bill Gates - but you can blame it on Gordon Brown

Bill Gates, the Microsoft founder and the world's wealthiest man, is to receive an honorary knighthood for "services to global enterprise".

The recommendation that he receive the honour was made by the Chancellor, Gordon Brown. Buckingham Palace is expected to announce it tomorrow, when Mr Gates will speak at a conference on "Advancing Enterprise" organised by Mr Brown.

The controversial software company creator - whose commercial success has led to hatred of him among his competitors - is worth an estimated $40 billion (£22 billion). Microsoft is described as the "Evil Empire" by those who resent its grip on the computer industry.

Other Americans to have received the KBE include George Bush, the former president, Rudolph Giuliani, the former mayor of New York, Steven Spielberg, the film director, and Alan Greenspan, the chairman of the US Federal Reserve Bank.

10. Sounds like knighthood is mostly reserved for as#holes.
But then, the Queen is hardly a freedom fighter herself.

12. So his total worth is half of what this year's Iraq budget is
That kind of puts the Iraq cost into an interesting perspective.

By the way, I thought that only British citizens could be knighted. Or is it that only British citizens can use the term "Sir" if they are knighted?

14. That's correct, Stuckinthebush ...
... the British establishment is happy to "reward" like minds in this way but they don't get to call themselves "Sir". Awwwwwww!!

Sir Dubya has a nice ring to it, yes? And she can say "I dubya Sir Dubya."

20. Poor queen...
... if she knew anything she'd give the knighthood to Linus Torvalds.

My wife's company got hit (and I'm sure many others) by yet another Outlook virus. There will be tens or hundreds of hours of lost productivity, and when the inevitable "patch" comes tech support will be afraid to install it lest it break yet something else.

Gates is a real Sir Galahad. Not.

21. Why not?
Name me another stinking rich mogul who's given as much cash to as many worthy causes as Gates. Has anybody anywhere, whether it be a country or person, given as much money as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has to medical research?

I probaby don't have as much use for rich people as anybody else here, but I see plenty more positive coming from Gates than anything else. Unfortunatly, anybody with money is scum regardless of the positive contributions they've made to society.
