BBC (early Sunday): Iran President calls for free elections
From the BBC Online
Dated Sunday January 25 01:27 GMT (Saturday 5:27 pm PST)

Khatami calls for free elections
By Sadeq Saba
BBC regional analyst

Iran's President, Mohammad Khatami, has hardened his position on the country's election row by demanding a fair and free poll.
He urged the unelected Guardian Council which has disqualified more than 3,000 candidates from next month's elections, to make a full review of its decision.
He has tried to find a solution by holding talks behind closed doors.

In a joint statement with the parliamentary speaker, Mehdi Karrubi, Mr Khatami accused the leader of the Guardian Council, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, of misrepresenting their views at a meeting with him last Saturday.

3. LOL!
Man I wish world events was taught more. The clerics control the country not the "elected" officials.

5. Maybe Bush will learn something from the Iranians
No, I don't mean Khatami. I mean the clerics.

I can see it now. A council of elders, consisting of corporate big wigs, will decide who can run for public office in America. The Bushies would like that.

4. Not really
Khatami called for free and fair elections. We all know what the Frat Boy thinks of free and fair elections. He thinks they are a nuisance.
