1. Here we go again
Hopefully, this won't add to the already horrific casualties of the past week, but I'm not hopeful. It sucks when being optimistic means that you hope its a 2 person Kiowa rather than a Chinook, but there it is....

2. This is horrible
How many American's have died this week? It seems like it has been a really bad week. I also wonder how many Iraq's have died? Don't seem to hear much about that, but I'm guessing it has been a bad week for them as well.

They said the aircraft came down in a river in the city, about 240 miles northwest of the capital Baghdad. U.S. troops sealed off the area after the crash.

It was not immediately clear if there were casualties or whether the helicopter had come under fire at the time of the crash.

20. I'll go with that
The obstinate refusal of the power stations and power lines to heal themselves after being Shocked and Awed show quite clearly they are on the side of making the USA look bad.

Now they've crossed over into active resistance.

5. Army Copter (Kiowa) With 2 Pilots Crashes in Iraq
Army Copter With 2 Pilots Crashes in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A U.S. military helicopter crashed Sunday in the Tigris River in the northern town of Mosul while searching for a soldier, and both pilots were missing, a spokeswoman said.

She did not say what caused the crash of the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter, attached to the 101st Airborne Division.

She said the helicopter was involved in a search and rescue mission for a U.S. soldier reported missing when the boat he was in capsized earlier Sunday. The soldier was on a river patrol with three other soldiers and some Iraqi policemen, she said.

The other three soldiers were safe but two Iraqi police officers and an iraqi translator are reported dead, said the spokeswoman, speaking on customary condition of anonymity.

She said the search for the two pilots is underway as well as an investigation into the crash.

Mosul is 225 miles northwest of Baghdad.

8. The helicopter was searching for a missing soldier who was in a
boat that capsized. The Iraqis who were with him are apparently dead. May they all find peace with God.

9. Questions based on story
1) Was the capsized boat involved in a hostile action?
2) Are our gunboats generally under fire as they patrol the Tigris?

13. This is so sad
and as much as I am obsessing over the primaries, I DO wish that the 'news' channels would cover the war, and let the people of NH decide who to vote for!

It's more important for the country to know what the current administration has gotten us into - and how they seem unable to get us out.

I'm depressed.

1.) mechanical failure
2.) collided with power lines
3.) hit a sparrow and came down
4.) pilot error
5.) strong winds

If this isn't the biggest quagmire since Viet Nam I don't know what is. I'm not one given for profanity, but when the occasion calls for it F... Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Powell - the lying cowards!!!!!

...and say there will be an investigation. The results are rarely published. Looks like these will be characterized as "non-hostile." Boats capsize, patrols disappear, helocopters crash. The Central Command: "We don't know nothing."

On edit:

That's nine dead for this weekend by my count. According to Gen. Abazaid on Friday things were getting better. Open mouth stick in foot.

17. My number 1 issue is this invasion....the ramifications...the cost in
lives, dollars, good will and continuing depletion of our finances.

Many other issues are important to me but this one set a terrifying precedent for this nation. It has taken us down a road we should never have gone down.

16. ABC Radio just reported that they are searching for 5 Americans
I know what the report above said, but ABC says that the Iraqi translator is alive, they are searching for 3 Americans from the boat, and searching for the two helicpter pilots.
