Gay wedding for Star Trek's Takei
Source: BBC

US actor George Takei is to wed his long-term partner after California lifted its ban on same-sex marriage.

Takei, 71, best known for playing Mr Sulu in Star Trek, said he and Brad Altman were going through the "delicious dilemma" of where to marry.

The actor and 54-year-old Mr Altman have been together for 21 years.

"We can have the dignity, as well as all the responsibilities, of marriage. We embrace it all heartily," Takei wrote on his website.

6. Hurry! We need a few thousand gay marriages per month for the next several months
So that people in CA who otherwise might get all hypertensed about passing a new gay marriage amendment will realize that it has no impact on their little, tidy-lawn heterosexual lives. Gay marriage is a far better economic stimulator than *'s stupid $600 checks -- just a talking point to use on neocons in your life.

10. And it will make it harder to strike down
The more potential complainants to take their cases to court, the better. I wished that there had been a flood of marriages when it started in Massachussetts, but the number was fairly low.

New Jersey appears to be next in line for a major LGBT success.

And congratulations to Messrs. Takei and Altman.

Takei and Altman have been together for over 21 years. In his message, which discusses their relationship as well as his experience as a Japanese American: Takei says:

"As a Japanese American, I am keenly mindful of the subtle and not so subtle discrimination that the law can impose. During World War II, I grew up imprisoned behind the barbed wire fences of U.S. internment camps. Pearl Harbor had been bombed and Japanese Americans were rounded up and incarcerated simply because we happened to look like the people who bombed Pearl Harbor. Fear and war hysteria swept the nation. A Presidential Executive Order directed the internment of Japanese Americans as a matter of national security. Now, with the passage of time, we look back and see it as a shameful chapter of American history...With time, I know the opposition to same sex marriage, too, will be seen as an antique part of our history" http://www.georgetakei.com

36. what more needs to be said?
How eloquently stated. I have a friend who's a big star trek fan (as am I), and he was excited, but a bit peeved, when Takei came out as a homosexual a few years ago. His reasoning was that it would have been great for him to have a gay asian-american (as he is) role model when he was growing up. Better late than never, I guess.

I'd ask where to send the blender, but I guess after 21 years they probably have all the household tchotchkes they need.

It would be cool to send them a card, though.

And I recommend Point Reyes for the wedding.

Just park it in Golden Gate Park, in that open field.
Set the cloaking device and don't forget to lock the door.
