CNN: Cheney, pope meet at Vatican
Edited on Tue Jan-27-04 10:30 AM by kysrsoze
VATICAN CITY (CNN) -- U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and Pope John Paul II briefly met at the Vatican on Tuesday as both sides worked to play down differences over the war in Iraq. Cheney presented the pope with a crystal dove, delivering greetings from U.S. President George W. Bush.

Without making direct reference to the war, John Paul told Cheney that in a world "marked with conflict and injustice" it is important that all nations seek international cooperation and work for peace and respect.

"The American people have always cherished the fundamental values of freedom, justice and equity," the pope said in offering his greetings to Cheney and, in turn, to the president.

"I encourage you and your fellow citizens to work at home and in the world for the growth of international cooperation."

OK, WTF'in'F is going on here? First, blessing breakdancers, then meeting with Big Dick? At least the Pope said some encouraging things.

2. There was more happening than meets the eye
This Pope knows what he is doing. I am confident of that, though I can criticise H.H. Pope John Paul II on his papacy, I am confident that he is acting, though you will not be able to read about it in the papers.

3. Cheney and the pope
are playing for the same team. The Roman catholic church was one of the first power elite cons.

6. exactly.
The Roman Catholic chruch has been in the business of making life miserable for people since Arthurian times. When kings needed to borrow money, they did so from the chruches, albeit not directly.

7. He's just trying to score brownie points with Catholic voters
Especially Latinos. That's one of the GOP's major goals, to increase the number of Latinos who vote Republican.

9. the Dove is the Catholic symbol of the 'Holy Spirit', representing
God....the Trinity is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit...

for bush* (who is NOT a Catholic) to send over a symbol of GOD to the Pope is a MAJOR CULTURAL INSULT to all Catholics....

the Pope, in his usual forgiving manner, accepted the gift...

22. Isn't this in the Book of Revelations
Something about God and Satan meeting face to face? Maybe instead of meeting at the Vatican they should have met at the hill of Meggido.

23. What the Pope said and What Cheney heard, two different things
The Pope Said:

"I encourage you and your fellow citizens to work at home and in the world for the growth of international cooperation."

Cheney Heard:

"I encourage you and your fellow citizens to work at home and in the world for the growth of international corporations."
