Puerto Rico moves Obama closer to nomination
Source: Associated Press

By STEPHEN OHLEMACHER – 12 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Barack Obama crept closer to clinching the Democratic presidential nomination Sunday, gaining at least 14 delegates in the Puerto Rico primary.

Based on a pre-election survey of likely voters, Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton each won at least 14 delegates. There were still 27 delegates to be allocated.

Obama has a total of 2,068 delegates, leaving him 50 shy of the number needed to clinch the nomination, with two primaries remaining. Clinton has 1,891.5, according to the latest tally by The Associated Press.

There are a total of 31 delegates at stake in Tuesday's contests in Montana and South Dakota. If Clinton and Obama split them, Obama would need to pick up 30 or so superdelegates to secure the nomination.

Primaries End.

Sunday Show Recap, In the Papers, Week Ahead
By TAHMAN BRADLEY
June 1, 2008

Confused by Saturday's Democratic National Committee's Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting?

Not sure how Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., can be on the verge of wrapping up the nomination even as Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., is expected to win another primary on Sunday?

Think this is the end, but not sure?

Here is a simple list of things to keep in mind as we enter the final 48 hours of the Democratic nominating contest. Numbers 1-10 explain the math. Letters A-E are nonmathematical things at play.

9. Is this a satire spoof article. Unbelievable if not.
Obama is my vote but this news out Puerto Rico puts Clinton much closer to a tie. There is no way the news should be spun like this. I thought maybe it was a spoof or satire. Is it?

Washington: Hillary Clinton will be offered a dignified exit from the presidential race and the prospect of a place in Barack Obama's cabinet under plans for a "negotiated surrender" of her White House ambitions being drawn up by Senator Obama's aides.

It doesn't help matters when the media shows such obvious bias as this. A better headline might be

Clinton grabs Puerto Rico consolation

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AFP) — Hillary Clinton scored a hefty win in Sunday's Puerto Rico primary but Barack Obama looked to have the Democrats' White House nod within his grasp after a fractious deal on Florida and Michigan.

The Caribbean US territory of four million people held the third-last nominating contest heading to Tuesday's climax of the five-month primary season in Montana and South Dakota.

The CNN, Fox News and MSNBC networks said Puerto Ricans had voted decisively for Clinton, but MSNBC said turnout was poor at about 10 percent.

Puerto Ricans, who are US citizens but have no representation in Congress, can take part in party contests but do not have the right to vote in November's presidential election.

Obama poised for nomination despite Clinton victory in Puerto Rico

Ewen MacAskill in Washington
guardian.co.uk,
Sunday June 1 2008

Barack Obama is to take on the mantle of the Democratic presidential nominee from Tuesday night in spite of losing today's Puerto Rico primary to Hillary Clinton.

Exit polls suggested an overwhelming victory for Clinton and US television stations called the result in her favour within minutes of polls closing in the US territory.

There are 55 delegates at stake. While she will take the majority of them, Obama will still receive a share, taking him closer to the magic number that will deliver the Democratic nomination.

The End Is Nigh

Bob Schieffer Says, With Mich. And Fla. Delegates To Be Seated (In Half-Chairs), The Result Is Inevitable.

WASHINGTON, June 1, 2008

(CBS) Weekly commentary by CBS Evening News chief Washington correspondent and Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer.Despite all the hollering and general rudeness at the meeting of the Democratic Rules Committee that played out on television yesterday, by this time next week the primary season may finally be over, and both parties may have a nominee.

I know. I know.

When the committee gave those disputed delegates from Michigan and Florida only half a vote and dealt a serious blow to Senator Clinton's chances, her supporters shouted, "No-bama" and "McCain in '08." And her main man Harold Ickes threatened to take the fight all the way to the convention.

Even after what we heard this morning, I doubt that.

8.  Clinton wins Puerto Rico primary but Obama gains delegates
<snip>

"Hillary Rodham Clinton won a lopsided, but largely symbolic victory Sunday in Puerto Rico's presidential primary, the final act in a weekend of tumult that brought Barack Obama tantalizingly close to the Democratic presidential nomination.

The former first lady was gaining more than 60 percent of the vote in early returns, and a pre-election poll suggested she could wind up with nearly two-thirds support.

In defeat, Obama was on track to gain at least 14 delegates, bringing him within 50 of the 2,118 needed for the nomination.

Aides predicted he could clinch the nomination as early as this week, when Montana and South Dakota close out the primary season, and he said he was confident the party would unite for the fall campaign. "First of all, Senator Clinton is an outstanding public servant, she has worked tirelessly during this campaign ... and she is going to be a great asset when we go into November," he told an audience in Mitchell, S.D. "Whatever differences Senator Clinton and I may have, those differences pale in comparison to the other side."

Hillary Clinton's aides prepare to concede

By Toby Harnden in Washington
Last Updated: 10:08PM BST 01/06/2008
Senior advisers to Senator Hillary Clinton have prepared the ground for her to abandon her presidential ambitions within days rather than disputing the Democratic nomination all the way to the party convention in August.

Senator Barack Obama is expected to be able to declare himself the party's candidate against Senator John McCain as early as tomorrow, when South Dakota and Montana become the final states to hold their primaries.

Just after the polls close, Mr Obama, who could be accompanied by senior Democratic Party figures, is to hold a huge rally in St Paul, Minnesota, at the venue where Mr McCain is due to accept the Republican nomination in September.

His aides were working furiously yesterday to amass the two dozen or so "super-delegates" – party officials whose convention votes are not tied to the primaries – he would need to ensure that the South Dakota and Montana results give him a majority.

Well that was fun :):)):):):) ..... Enjoy the rest of your day !!! Peace. :)

11. but but, Hillary is getting the "Popular Prison" vote:
Confinados prefieren a Hillary

Google translation (not great, but it is what it is):

With the vote of confinement, took out the second step prior to the historic Democratic primary this Sunday in Puerto Rico. In a poll shows that the pre-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, had the benefit of inmates.

And they are hard working prisoner voters.
