Fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent dead at 71

PARIS (AP) -- Legendary designer Yves Saint Laurent, who
reworked the rules of fashion by creating elegant pantsuits
that came to define how modern women dressed, died Sunday
evening, a longtime friend and associate said. He was 71.

Pierre Berge did not give details but said Saint Laurent had
died following a long illness.

A towering figure of 20th century fashion, Saint Laurent was
widely considered the last of a generation that included
Christian Dior and Coco Chanel and made Paris the fashion
capital of the world, with the Rive Gauche, or Left Bank,
as its elegant headquarters.

1. It seems like a lot of big names have been making their exit lately.
It's spring. People die in the spring for some reason.

6. Too young, at 71.
I'm more of a Levis guy, but Yves Saint-Laurent definitely had an impact.

Kudos, and RIP.

In the fast-changing world of haute couture, Saint Laurent was hailed as the most influential and enduring designer of his time. From the first YSL tuxedo and his trim pantsuits to see-through blouses, safari jackets and glamorous gowns, Saint Laurent created instant classics that remain stylish decades later.

Sadly, a fashion icon is gone. His creativity and impact on fashion will be missed.

8. I grew up with YSL clothes.........
the mondrian clothes, the Russian clothes, the pantsuits.....opulent and beautiful, spare and beautiful and above all, wearable.

End of an era, indeed.

12. I've never worn the clothes, but I wear Opium cologne daily
Also by his brand. I have a beautiful Opium umbrella, too, that I got for buying a bunch of products one time when Clinton was president and I still had spending money.

9. Such a loss to the fashion world...
His haute couture collections were very inspiring. And even when Tom Ford was designing the Rive Gauche collection in the late 90's you could still see his influence in everything.

He'll be missed :(
