Waxman Urges FBI To Release Bush, Cheney Interviews In CIA Leak Case
By Daniel W. Reilly
Jun 3, 2008

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) urged Attorney General Michael Mukasey Tuesday to release FBI interviews of President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney as part of the investigation into the leak of the identity of former CIA agent Valerie Plame. Waxman cited new information from the FBI interview of I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby--who was convicted in the case--and the recent disclosures in a tell-all book written by former Bush press secretary Scott McClellan.

"In his interview with the FBI, Mr. Libby stated that it was “possible” that Vice President Cheney instructed him to disseminate information about to the press," Waxman said in a letter to Mukasey.

"This is a significant revelation and, if true, a serious matter. It cannot be responsibly investigated without access to the Vice President’s FBI interview." Waxman originally asked for the FBI interviews last December, but said Tuesday that only redacted versions of the interviews were provided.

"There are no sound reasons for you to withhold the interviews with the President and the Vice President from the Committee or to redact passages like Mr. McClellan’s discussions with the President and the Vice President," Waxman said, arguing that the investigation is now closed and that there has been no assertion of executive privilege.

1. Will Bush stop the FBI?
If he does so, is this obstruction of justice?

15. If Congress isn't moving on SIGNING STATEMENTS for impeachment . . .
what could possibly provoke them???

I mean . . . what Signing Statements do is NULLIFY the legislation that Congress passes ---
and it is Congress' responsibility to ensure that legislation is carried out with "the spirit
and intent" with which Congress passed these laws!!!

Waxman wants FBI documents about CIA leak probe
47 minutes ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — A House committee chairman is seeking more documents from the investigation into the leak of a CIA agent's name.
California Democrat Henry Waxman says Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff made a significant disclosure to the FBI that warrants further congressional follow-up.
Waxman said Tuesday that I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby told the FBI that it's possible he was instructed by Cheney to disseminate information to the press about Valerie Plame, the CIA operative who is the wife of former U.S. Ambassador Joseph Wilson.
Plame's CIA identity was leaked to the news media by several top Bush administration officials in 2003, including Libby and former top White House political adviser Karl Rove.

6. Didn't Fitz hint at this once?
I thought he implied something along the lines of "the interviews with bush/cheney are yours if you ask for them. But, you have to ask for them."
If Fitz still has plenary authority over the Plame case, can't Waxman ask Fitz directly and bypass Mukasey altogether?

7. We've waited this long, let's wait until they are out of office. Seriously.

We don't want any grants of immunity or pardons interfering with justice.

Interviews? What interviews, oh wait, you must mean those documents that were already shredded because they didn't contain any useful information, besides Cheney and Bu$h were not under oath and we KNOW they wouldn't lie.

11. exactly how much shit has to pile up before
their powder starts to simply decay...

rec'd

i'm pretty sure executive privilege will somehow someway be invoked here, (or bush and cheney might just tell waxman "no, we don't have a '9', go fish!" but it will be nice to see how far this one is taken.

i'd like to think this will be productive, but it just seems like more games.

13. GO TO WWW.CONGRESS.ORG TO EMAIL YOUR SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES - IT CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 02:24 PM by JohnWxy

WWW.congress.org makes it easy. you just enter your zip and then enter you email or letter. Tell them you want the exposure of covert CIA agent Plame fully investigated till we find out who was responsible. Richard Armitage is not the full picture. He's the distraction. Congress.org will also send a hard-copy letter if you prefer and it's free!

RECOMMENDED!
