Obama expects GOP to attack his patriotism
Source: MSNBC

NEW YORK - A day after he clinched the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Barack Obama said Wednesday that he expected an organized Republican attack on his integrity and patriotism because “it’s very hard for them to talk about where they want to take the country.”

Obama, a first-term senator from Illinois, touched on a variety of issues in a wide-ranging interview with Brian Williams, anchor of “NBC Nightly News.” Among them were what roles his defeated rival for the nomination, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, and her husband, the former president, might play in his campaign, as well as how soon he expected to debate his Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain.

1. It begins. But for once we have a candidate who gets it.

He said, “it’s very hard for them to talk about where they want to take the country.”

He gets it. We can weather it this time.

3. It started some time back. Didn't you know? He is not who he claims to be.

His mother "from Kansas" went to middle and high-school in Mercer Island, WA. Her school friends remember his mother as a self-described Marxist and atheist in high school, rebelling against nearly everything, one saying she was a "fellow traveler". Obama's mentor in Hawaii, "Frank", had been a member of the Communist Party USA.

There is a lot more groundwork being laid for continuing attacks.

With Obama's associate now convicted on nearly all charges in his corruption trial, expect more there.

Some day, the LA Times article on Obama and Robert Blackwell alleging money laundering, influence peddling, and violating IL ethics and disclosure laws might reappear in the media.

7. FWIW: "Obama's mentor in Hawaii, 'Frank'...." = editor, reporter, columnist, critic, and poet

Frank Marshall Davis (1905-1987).

From John Edgar Tidwell's introduction to black moods, Frank Marshall Davis's collected poems:

...Davis came under intense scrutiny of the FBI around 1945.

Despite Davis's public denials of his activities, the historical record indicates that the surveillance was not based solely on supposition. Davis's commitment to Communist ideology had begun even earlier and continued subtly in much of his writing until 1945. In an effort to recruit the extremely attractive, multitalented Kansan Irma Wassall to Party membership, Davis had confessed:

I've never discussed this with you and don't know whether you share the typical American uninformed concepts of Marxism or not, but I am risking such a reaction by saying that I have recently joined the Communist party. I see in it the only movement that is actually conscious of social evolution and the meaning of the various forces at play in the world today. As a matter of fact, I have had leanings in that direction since I was in college, but it has been only in the past few months that I developed certain associations that caused me to view this movement with the proper critical appreciation. And, frankly, I think that you have some of the gentleness, the desire to help others.

The file on Davis maintained by the FBI, from 1945 to 1963, reveals very little about the major ideological position that energized him: his passionate commitment to dismantling the legal and social stanchions supporting fascism abroad and Jim Crow at home. Influenced by what now reads as ideological blind faith, the FBI, the House Un-American Activities Committee, and the Senate Internal Security Subcommittee led a determined march to preserve the nation's racial and social status quo. Their preservationist tactics meant the use of their own variety of subversion in an effort to root out so-called dissidents and to maintain "the American way."

So . . .

14. "...the typical American uninformed concepts of Marxism..."
Communism, Marxism, Socialism - all words that get thrown around and, based on what I read during these primaries, used by people who have no idea what these concepts are. Nor are they aware of how these compare to capitalism or social democracy, and how the lines blur. What I have further observed is that these same people attach "reverence" or "patriotism" to traditions such as hand-over-heart during the pledge of allegiance, and the annual Holiday rantings over Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays (Happy Holidays is for my friends of non-Christian faiths); and to their way of thinking, anyone who doesn't fall in line with their interpretations of "tradition" or "patriotism" is labeled anti-whatever. I believe this same group would be horrified to have suggested to them that they consider investigating other political schools of thought - to even make the suggestion is un-whatever. Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't the authors of our sacred constitution slave owners? And we saw what happened to that "sacred tradition." So, before someone jumps all over me, screaming "Marxist", "Socialist", or "Communist", please do a little research.

No need to be embarrassed, unless you thought that any of my post wasn't true.

If you can prove otherwise, please post.

is not true. You have the information you post entirely out of context and therefore your conclusion is freeper garbage.

Try Storm Front. Maybe they'll take you seriously.

18. Attempting to warn, to caution -- apparently not clear that these are the attacks being used now
I supported Edwards, will vote for Obama or anyone else nominated, and will work hard to defeat McCain. I have been working to support liberal/progressive Democrats since the early 1960's. I have only voted for two candidates who became President: Carter and Clinton -- only Carter carried my state of NC. I hate losing and fear that we might again.

My almost-sarcastic post was trying to make the point that the RW had been working mostly below the radar already defining Obama. I have been posting about where the attacks on Obama are focused and which ones seem to be working.

Everything in my little example is true and has only a little RW spin. It can be verified in MSM articles and other sources acceptable at DU. I tried to show how strong the attacks can be. The only item without multiple independent sources is that the "Frank" in the book is Davis. That assertion has been in public discourse, wikis, etc. for over six months without it being denied or debunked.

You should at least be able to remember what happened to Gore and Kerry. I remember all our other candidates and how they get redefined by the RW. Most years, we start with a large lead in the general election, then have it erode after the convention, and struggle not to lose.

You can ignore me, even have me banned from DU. You can't do that in the real world.

Obama drug him off to a corner of the Senate today and laid the smackdown on Droopy Dog.

13. Lieberman a neocon dream.
I doubt Obama has much clout over old Joe. I'd be surprised should Joe not be the star of St Paul come convention time. / Only reason Joe cools his rhetoric. HE suspects the Dems will pick up 2-5 Senate seats come November. Likely Dem pick ups. Warner in Va, NM, Colorado, maybe even Kentucky. It will be sweet should Al Franken liven up the Senate. I can see the sparks between Al and Joe. That will be great fun.

20. The Right Wing Noise Machine
I was listening to Sean Hannity yesterday, and he had notorious Clinton-hater Dick Morris on. Morris said that it is up to Hannity and his cohorts to make sure America knows the "real" Barack Obama. Apparently, they seem to think that there is a side to Obama that needs to be exposed. They want to exploit the "People back east are bitter" Obama, instead of the "Change We Need" Obama. They are exploiting the Jeremiah Wright situation as well as Obama's acquaintance with the guy (name escapes me) that was talking about bombing the Pentagon 30 some-odd years ago.

We all need to call into these right-wing lunatic asylums and tell them that their tactics are not going to work and to start telling the conservabots the REAl John McCain.

By the way, they are calling Barack Obama "The Radical Barack Obama."

Let crush the cons!
