Line Forms at 4:30 a.m. for Obama Event in Bristol (Va.)
Source: Washington Post

BRISTOL, Va. -- The line to hear Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's mid-day speech in Bristol started forming at 4:30 a.m. today.

Three teenagers from Lee County who are too young to vote left their home at 2 a.m. and were the first people to line up outside of Virginia High School to hear Obama speak just before noon.

By mid-morning, the line stretched down the street in front of the high school in the southwestern tip of Virginia.

2. ....
:wow:

How many people do you think will show up? They were guessing 50,000, I'm thinking a lot more!

The repukes in Prince William "suddenly" figured out yesterday that they've got a problem with traffic at that venue by the way. ..:eyes:

3. I'm back after a double take! Sweet home Appalachia - lining up at 2 am!!
YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAWWWWW!!! Although it's the home of rednecks, white women and blue ribbon beer, I guess we shouldn't write Appalachia off just yet. I can say these things because I are Appleatchananian.

5. This part of Va. has been a major focus of the party for the last 8 years
Mark Warner's Gov. win is mostly attributed to getting the vote out here (west of Roanoke) and every event that I have been to since 2004 this has always been mentioned.

Webb will help a LOT here as will Warner. Kaine did okay here but he was running against a guy from a political machine in Scott county which is out here.

Va is a really large state if you check it out. It is a good 10 hour drive on route 58

3-5 days here for Obama would do a world of good in Va NC and TENN

Bristol is the "Mountain empire" and the major city in a region known for coal mining and formerly known for textiles (jobs are gone now)

13. Underpants and V.D - thanks for the info, I have it on my 'to do' list to hunt down
Webb's book about how the folks of the Appalachian mts have been molded by the Republican party. I didn't realize he's from the area, that would splain a lot (what is the name of that book?)

We really do have a lot of work ahead of us, to undo the hate that's been spread by the Republican Party - I love to know that we've already got a start on it.

25. Blacksburg people tend to be progressive and educated
and in fact the whole New River Valley has a lot of progressive-minded folks. Sad to hear that the New River Valley Free Press stopped publishing recently. One of my favorite alternate press sources.

17. Appalachia covers a long stretch through the mountains:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appalachia

I think the biggest thing to know about Appalachia is that the European settlers who ended up there were cut off from what was happening in the low lands, some more than others due to severe inability to get off of the mountains. It's a good thing and a bad thing, a lot of the old English/Scotch Irish ways of life were preserved, but they were really out of the loop for a long time. That's why I'm interested in Webb's book, how much of that way of life made them ripe to be used by the Republicans?

4. right on!
I was not old enough to vote when I first became politically active in JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL (age was 12 years old at that time).

This is the first time since that I've heard of young people, some pre-teens becoming politically involved.

GOBAMA!!!!

22. This is bad for the dems and Obama....
Will Virginians vote McCain now, since he doesn't draw big enough crowds to cause traffic jams?

This will be Tweety's lead tonight.

looking at all the faces in Barack's audiences. Hey - there's an idea for a slick coffee table book. About 700 pages of photographs of these faces throughout the ongoing campaign.

29. This is great
Obama is going to kick McCain's ass big time. I think the polls that show them almost tied are bullshit. How can a man who is the Senator of Az not fill a stadium with Numb Nuts Bush in his own state be that close to Obama with crowds like this.
