President Bush regrets his legacy as man who wanted war
Edited on Tue Jun-10-08 04:12 PM by Lautremont
Source: Times Online UK

President Bush has admitted to The Times that his gun-slinging rhetoric made the world believe that he was a “guy really anxious for war” in Iraq. He said that his aim now was to leave his successor a legacy of international diplomacy for tackling Iran.

In an exclusive interview, he expressed regret at the bitter divisions over the war and said that he was troubled about how his country had been misunderstood. “I think that in retrospect I could have used a different tone, a different rhetoric.”

Phrases such as “bring them on” or “dead or alive”, he said, “indicated to people that I was, you know, not a man of peace”. He said that he found it very painful “to put youngsters in harm’s way”. He added: “I try to meet with as many of the families as I can. And I have an obligation to comfort and console as best as I possibly can. I also have an obligation to make sure that those lives were not lost in vain.”

The unilateralism that marked his first White House term has been replaced by an enthusiasm for tough multilateralism. He said that his focus for his final six months in office was to secure agreement on issues such as establishing a Palestinian state and to “leave behind a series of structures that makes it easier for the next president”.

21. MIssion Accomplished! we will be bogged down in Iraq...
for another 10 years minimum. President Obama will be persuaded not to precipitously withdraw for many logical reasons. He will ponder and tell us that George Bush created a disaster that we have to clean up for the sake of stability in the Middle East.

He is a coward who avoided the draft

51. Common Knowledge...
Sheehan and other military families met with Bush in June 2004 at Fort Lewis, near Tacoma, Washington, nearly three months after her son's death. In a June 24, 2004 interview with the Vacaville Reporter published soon after the meeting, she stated, "We haven't been happy with the way the war has been handled. The President has changed his reasons for being over there every time a reason is proven false or an objective reached." She also stated that Bush was "... sincere about wanting freedom for the Iraqis... I know he's sorry and feels some pain for our loss. And I know he's a man of faith."<3>

5. Oh what utter bullshit. Is he trying McCain's angle, to pretend that he "hates war?"
We're being subjected now to McCain ad-lies on TV, claiming that he hates war, because his grandfather and father and he himself suffered so very much from war. It's like they decided that it's Opposite-day, as my son likes to pretend occasionally.

16. I regret the fact that I sincerely believe that Bush should go fuck himself
Life, for me, isn't a bowl of cherries in June 2008.

BUT...I have not been physically or emotionally scarred by military duty in Iraq.

Neither has anyone in my family.

I read the news, just like everyone else. But in terms of "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon?"

The Iraq war hasn't come within six degrees of me.

The same is true for Bush.

He recently enjoyed a dream wedding, in which he gave his daughter to a pasty, flabby freeper asshole who served as Karl Rove's aide.

But let's get one thing straight.

NO ONE with the last name of "Bush"....as in "directly related to Junior"...has died or suffered a loss as the result of this war.

The 4000+ dead do not number among them a Bush relative.

FUCK him. FUCK his legacy. FUCK his "regrets."

Just FUCK HIM.

Under the caption, in this article he said:

Doesn't this mean that he wishes he could have been a better lier?

35. We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret...
The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.

I can't recall who said that, but it seems to apply.

48. Oh brother
So he doesn't regret a bit of what he's done - just that it's gotten him some bad PR?

Typical. So frickin typical.

I sincerely hope that someday he has cause to actually realize the immense harm he's done and the huge amount of blood on his hands. I'd love a scene out of Macbeth, myself - Bush wringing his hands and shouting "Out spot". I'd like to think of him living in agony over the pain of his misdeeds.

But it won't ever happen. It will always, always be someone else's fault in his twisted mind.

My dream retirement job is to have the beer concession, close, but not too close to either *'s or Chenney's grave site. Preferably upwind in the prevaling direction. They are either going to have to bury them in an undisclosed location or put in a treatment plant. No other way to protect the groundwater.

How else does an accomplishment-less failure like Bewsh gain a legacy? Certainly not by righting the economy, peace summits, universal health care, rebuilding of schools and neighborhoods and setting up social safety nets. Shit like that's too wussyish and don't make no money fer cronies!!!

He blows shit up. That's what he does. That's what ALL Bewshes do. And the worst thing about it is that they think nothing of it. They care more about the gum they step on than soldier's livelihoods.

65. He would be a big time, war hero leader and president
in the same league as FDR, Ike and Churchill was what he was thinking when he walked into the White House. And of course he was itching to find a reason to start a war so he could take his "rightful" place in history. "Fuck Saddam. We're taking him out!"

Now it must be starting to sink in even in his own feeble, deluded mind how horribly he has screwed everything up, and he is doing his best to rationalize away what a terrible legacy for the world he will leave behind when he leaves office.

92. He's such a fucking liar!!!

So, Asshole, does "Who are we honoring here?" represent comforting and consoling?

Sheehan: "He wouldn't look at the pictures of Casey. He didn't even know Casey's name. He came in the room and the very first thing he said is, 'So who are we honoring here?' He didn't even know Casey's name. He didn't want to hear it. He didn't want to hear anything about Casey. He wouldn't even call him 'him' or 'he.' He called him 'your loved one.' Every time we tried to talk about Casey and how much we missed him, he would change the subject. And he acted like it was a party."

Had he just used words - and in early 2003, took the victory that was easily there - to continue the diplomacy and inspections and - when done - lift the sanctions. He could claim he was tougher than his dad and Clinton - and that he cared about the people who were hurt by the sanctions. But, then he would have been a man of peace.
