TORNADO WATCH: City of Edmonton-St. Albert-Sherwood Park
Source: Weather Network

CONDITIONS ARE FAVOURABLE FOR THE FORMATION OF FUNNEL CLOUDS OR WEAK TORNADOES. CONDITIONS ARE FAVOURABLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF FUNNEL CLOUDS AND TORNADOES. THESE TYPES OF TORNADOES FORM OUT OF WEAK THUNDERSTORMS AND ARE USUALLY NOT AS DESTRUCTIVE AS THEIR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM COUSIN. THEY ARE DIFFICULT TO TRACK WITH DOPPLER RADAR AND CAN APPEAR WITHOUT WARNING. THEY NORMALLY MOVE SLOWLY AND CAN LAST FOR MANY MINUTES. THEY OFTEN APPEAR AS A GIANT COLUMN OF DUST FROM THE GROUND TO THE BOTTOM OF THE THUNDERSTORM. THEIR DESTRUCTIVE POWER IS USUALLY FELT OVER A VERY SMALL AREA. TREAT ALL FUNNEL CLOUDS AND TORNADOES SERIOUSLY AND AVOID WHEN POSSIBLE. SHOULD ONE DEVELOP NEARBY TAKE SHELTER UNDERGROUND OR IN A REINFORCED STRUCTURE LIKE A BATHROOM OR INTERIOR CLOSET. IF YOU ARE IN YOUR VEHICLE TRY TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE TORNADO AT RIGHT ANGLES. ENVIRONMENT CANADA CONTINUES TO MONITOR THE SITUATION CLOSELY. PLEASE CONTINUE TO MONITOR YOUR LOCAL MEDIA OR WEATHERADIO FOR FURTHER UPDATES. SHOULD YOU SPOT A FUNNEL CLOUD OR TORNADO...AND ONLY IF IT IS SAFE TO DO SO...YOU CAN CALL 1-800-239-0484 TO REPORT YOUR SIGHTING. PLEASE NOTE THIS PHONE NUMBER IS FOR REPORTING SEVERE WEATHER ONLY.
THUNDERSTORMS ARE CURRENTLY MOVING INTO THE LEDUC REGION AND ARE MOVING NORTHWESTWARDS AT 30 KM/H. AT 2:55 PM FUNNEL CLOUDS WERE REPORTED WITH THESE THUNDERSTORMS. IT IS POSSIBLE THESE FUNNEL CLOUDS COULD TOUCHDOWN AND PRODUCE WEAK TORNADOES.

Canada consists of Ontario, Quebec and New Foundland (where it's half an hour earlier!)

9. So you have the central Canadian mentality. Cause people in Ontario think the same way sometimes.
Must be your proximity to the "centre of the earth" (which if you don't know is Toronto).

13. Oh come on! You're ALL wrong....
Canada's REAL name is British Columbia, and it's just north of us here in Washington state. It's the "other half" of God's own country....Washington and Oregon being "this" half. Ms Bigmack

21. There was a funnel cloud on the UVM campus today.
I stood on the steps of Waterman Hall and watched it form about a block away, total dumbass that I am.

(I would have gone inside had it been rotating faster. It was breaking up at the base faster than it could form.)

26. That is early, even for cold weather funnels.
Some call them 'landspouts'. They are a much weaker type of tornado, since the storms they come from don't usually have strong rotation or mesocyclones. They are pretty common in Alberta, I've seen a few funnels myself, but have never witnessed one touch down. They can still be pretty damaging and dangerous even though they rarely go beyond F0 or F1. I hope there was no damage, I have relatives near there, and I'm glad the watch is over.
