No permanent bases in Iraq - Bush
Source: Voice of Iraq

Baghdad, Jun 11, (VOI)- U.S. President George W. Bush said on Wednesday he expects to seal a security pact with Iraq but added there were no plans for permanent U.S. bases there.

"I think we'll end up with a strategic agreement with Iraq," Bush said at a news conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
He called media reports that there were plans to build permanent U.S. bases in Iraq "erroneous", adding there was "all kinds of noise" about the issue in the United States and Iraq.

...

The agreement should not be effective except after endorsement by the 275-member Iraqi parliament, which comprises five political blocs, the Fadhila (Virtue) Party and the Sadrist Bloc, or Iraqis loyal to Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr.

"We're in Iraq at the invitation of the sovereign government of Iraq," he said.

"One of the lessons of Iraq is that for economic development there has to be a measure of security, which is happening now. This will not involve permanent bases nor will it bind any future president to troop levels," Bush underlined.

4. Once again, it's "Opposites Day".
Whatever this administration says, the opposite is true. So that means we are actually building 40 or 50 permanent bases there.

9. There he goes parsing again; define "permanent", bush. Ah yes..."ENDURING"
We won't have "permanent" bases, just "ENDURING" ones. After all, nothing is really "permanent", and therefor george isn't really lying.

It's all in his definitions, people.

Not for long, chimpster. They are going to have to "invite" us to LEAVE.

13. That would be the bush regime "invitation", uh huh.
Funny how the rest of the (sentient) world calls that stuff like "illegal"..."invasion and occupation"..."force"...

15. This is definitely not true.
We already HAVE bases in Iraq. I'm not sure of the number, maybe 12?

Anyway, someone here on the DU posted photos. They look very permanent to me.

Liar.
